If you register, post the city.

At the same time you could do small NVN meetings.

registered at Chicago, IL event.

Since I have already preordered W7 Pro, I kind of happy not to find my city on the list. I already have WS2K8 SP2, is WS2K8 R2 a free update, or would I have to pay for it?

R2 is a new full feature OS. no, its not free

Hmm...wonder if I can pretend I am a software developer and snag me a free copy.

There isn't one in my state. Not even a bordering state. :headexplode:

The one "near" me is a 90 minute drive which is lame, but probably worth it.

With the price of gasoline + wear and tear, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy it?

Nah the piece of sh*t 93 toyota truck I drive right now is a stick shift and there is a direct highway route (no stop and go at all) to get there, so it gets better gas mileage than the majority of the good cars that people drive.

Maybe not 90 minutes either, maybe more like 60. It is all the way in north Phoenix, and I am on the southern border of Mesa.

The closest location to me is Dallas, which is 260 miles away, so 540 miles roundtrip. I might consider that, if I owned one of those new Chevy Volts, but I don't, so I won't.

That depends on why and who you're going for. If you just sign up and attend to get a free copy of windows I'd agree thats probably not all that cost effective.

if you work in IT. and you're attendance is approved as job related you would not only be paid to attend but also eligible to expense some or all of the mileage accrued in getting to and from . The copy of Windows would just be a perk.

its only 8 miles for me ;)

Actually seems a bit closer than I thought it was. They just mentioned the name of the movie theater and I was looking at the wrong one. It's going to be 46.6 miles round trip (23.3 miles there 23.3 miles back) but that is pure freeway driving, so not a long trip, about 60 minutes round trip as per my second guess.

Not exactly next door but I've driven further distances for more trivial sh*t. Maybe like 3 gallons of gas at the most, and even that is a very liberal estimation. $7.50 and 3 hours worth of time for something that will sell for $200, not a bad deal.

Hey NekroSoft props to you for the headsup on this event.
I attended the FL event yesterday it was pretty intersteting the only bummer is the free Win7 Ultimate that was handed out was only the 32bit version.

Not complaining its a freebie althought I took a day out of work to attend, just thought it was kind of chessy on Micro$oft end not to give out 64bit versions it isnt like they lose anymore by giving away 64 bit copies. Thanks again.

I attended in Minneapolis and it was the samel I was a bit disappointed with them only including the 32bit media/DVD.
The Key is retail and valid for Both/Either 32 or 64bit so you have the license and just need to get a copy of the 64bit media.

Nice.....thx for the headsup is there anywhere for us to access the 64 bit media yet? or do we have to wait till launch day?

Just got back from the Phoenix one. All in all was pretty worth the 40 mile drive (round trip of course, 20mi each way) got some free breakfast and a free copy of win 7 ultimate (was expecting pro.) Got even more than I bargained for I guess :D Not bad for 3 hours and $7 in gas.

Sadly like everybody else though, only the 32-bit disc was included. So that said, does anybody know the md5sum or sha1sum of the RTM 64-bit disc? I have a feeling MS has posted it to one of their technet forums.

EDIT: Quick search yielded this sha1sum for the 64-bit ultimate disc: 326327cc2ff9f05379f5058c41be6bc5e004baa7

Can any of our resident MSDN technet subscribers confirm that? I've already started downloading a torrent based on that but will wait til confirmation before using it.

Worked perfectly. Just used the key included in the little jacket they gave me on the disc with the sha1sum matching the numbers you gave me. The key was accepted and activated without any problems whatsoever.

BTW if anybody wants an easy way to verify sha1sums in windows (you do this so that you know that the file you downloaded is 100% authentic and completely unmodified regardless of what shady torrent site you may have downloaded it from) get a neat little tool called HashTab at beeblebrox.org.
