GTX 295 successor

Since ATI is planning a dual „RV870“ card, something that we know as Gemini dual-chip card, you won't really be surprised to learn that Nvidia is also working hard on its dual GT300 card.
We’ve confirmed this but we are not sure if Nvidia can launch this card in November or it will also show the demo in late Q4 2009 and start shipping it in Q1 2010, probably in January.
Nvidia’s card is DirectX 11 compatible and its built to run parallel processing CUDA, DirectX compute or OpenCL. This is what Nvidia values apart of being the fastest graphics boy on the block.
The goal is to have something faster than dual RV870 card and to try to keep the Geforce GTX295 performance crown. Nvidia hints it will be the fastest and most powerful thing ever.
I might get the dual GT300 card, provided I don't have to wait for it too long or if it is much faster than the dual ATI RV870 card I can always get it later.

The most stupid of comments, and they do it every f*cking time. Is it standard for newer parts to be slower than the last gen? Are they revolutionising the industry by producing something faster than older cards? :headexplode:
"We will bring to the market the fastest thing ever. In one year from now we will again bring the fastest thing ever. In one year after that, BEHOLD: the fastest thing ever, AGAIN!"

Since they talked about performance crown the hint is probably about comparing with the ATI dual GPU card, but that is only my guess.

you could interpret this as meaning the 5870x2 will be faster than a single GT300, so they need an x2 style card for the performance crown. although here (http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15067/1/) Fuad says:
Nvidia won’t have its “GT300” card before late Q4 2009, probably November time, but there is a strong feeling that Nvidia might end up faster.
so I don't know what to think ?_?
The word says no X2... maby a x3?

Sounds more like I said, they need to compete with ATI in every possible front, same as it was rumored for NVIDIA to produce variations of the GT300, it's logical to think on the higher side... so they have products for mid-range (at least, if not low-end, too), high-range, and enthusiast-range
About the announcement, yeah... it's pretty lame in my opinion, just some more fire to try to keep hardware enthusiasts hooked up on the news, nothing more, nothing less...
I just hope both companies launch some good, solid and innovative products and not something 'a bit' better than the previous generation, we need power, not promises or more of the same ¬¬

Well, i'm sure that the dual gpu card will arrive sooner or later.
I just hope to see a dual gpu card with the full memory bus width this time, if not, i'll get the single gpu card, like always.
Price/Performance/Need -> If ATI has shared memory so a 2GB card has each GPU full access then ATI could have a great price advantage there. A X3 version to me, if true indicates to me a shared type memory design but really don't know could give a good performance advantage. Would be funny if Nvidia came out with a shared memory first. I just don't have much confidence that Nvidia will deliver this year the GT300, I still think it will be around May of next year. Now I hope Nvidia surprises me with a hell of a GPU early.
Another note is Nvidia push on Cuda, great stuff no doubt and should go over to OpenCL as well, meaning Nvidia may have a clear advantage there. Now I hope Nvidia doesn't get too carried away with Cuda where there is a great future market but restricts the gaming market where ATI can compete performance wise with Nvidia bigger chip for games where the majority of their money and profits come from the gaming end of their GPU.
I hope both companies deliver great stuff and not one dominating too much over the other in the end.

I'll get them both, ATI Rig, Nvidia Rig. I like to have it all baby, Gaming greatness.:D

I would wait for this dual card then. Many people hate them but I for some reason like the X2 variants.

Lol welcome to PR: the study of how to say nothing using a lot of words.

how about a quad?

Good lord. :headexplode:
Where's the SLI connector? We should be able to hook 4 of those together for 16-way SLI... With nearly 14 gigs of redundant, wasted memory. :headexplode:

I hate the way the industry is going... No longer focusing on improving the single chip speed as much, since they can just SLAP ON MOAR CHIPS!!! :bleh:

If they worked as a single unit it'd be fine but requiring a layer of software between the chips and an enormous redundant frame buffer for each one seems like a horrible long term plan.
As I've been saying since the Geforce 6800 brought back SLI, I really hope they're making progress in this area. At least with cards that have multiple GPUs on a single board.

Hard to believe unless the real GT300 cards are delayed BIG time.
Anyway this is very old rumor, maybe good idea to check the dates before posting such.
The TweakTown article is dated (Posted: Apr 2, 2009) and the source for the article is the story published at ExtraHardware (http://www.extrahardware.cz/node/3266#new) (Czech site) dated April 1 2009.
Anybody wonders what April 1 might mean? Well if you speak Czech like me you would know it was an April fools day joke.
By the way few other site and forums reported it at that time without knowing it was a joke.

That would explain it.

It's not NEWS. It was April fools joke, which was lost in translation.

I saw that afterwards in your post on the next page but I was too lazy to edit my post ;)

Would be too power hungry, taking into account 5870 X2 is currently rated at 376W, just guess more or less the same for the GT300 in dual GPU mode, no matter how powerful that could be, 800W just for the GPU is insane...
It's quite funny we're living in a society that's striving for power saving and the GPU manufacturers are going the opposite way haha
Certainly curious :zombie:
I’m curious how much a dual GT300 would use. The Radeon 5870 X2 seems to reach a point were it becomes a lot harder to make a dual card, for example how will AMD deal with all the heat? I never had a 4870 X2, but even those cards I heard could be pretty hot.
As for power usage, I read about 376 Watt too, that's really a lot. The 4870 X2 was around 260-270 Watt?
Then again, if the GT300 is truly a beast, Nvidia might not need a dual GPU solution, but I doubt it. It would be awesome though.
I hope the trend starts with less heat and power and better scaling of these chips in SLI. I want faster speed like anybody else but it's getting ridiculous the amount of heat and power and wasted memory/GPU these cards are doing. I like ATI's 5780 only using 27w idle and 187w load and their Crossfire has better scaling than Nvidia's $LI. So hoping Nvidia gets off their brawn approach and releases a card with less power requirements, less heat output, and much better SLI scaling.
