so... The icy hoy did NOTHING. Worst 8 bucks ever. But thankfully the coaches canceled the practice, so I have more time to heal and sleep.

Off to watch Chelsae, then the Man U game on the telly.

so i was aching all of yesterday and today for my neam, 2 hours before practice I drink an advil, my legs are perfectly fine. I am telling you guys, this stuff is from the gods. so Anyways, Toni says that today we are takin it easy, cause he feels that we are in shape already. So we didnt do anything too major. They announced Varsity players (no I am not in Varsity, Im in JV). So tomorrow, I know that we are running the 35/40 minutes because now we know who the varsity team is, so we can do those runs.
Any last minute tips for running on cement?
Also, today I had rice with chicken and vegetables instead of pasta, I hope I dont see too much difference in energy.

What kind of chicken? Organic? How was it cooked? Was the rice whole grain? What kind of vegetables were there? Boiled or steamed is my fav. Make sure you eat lots of carrots. Did you eat the chicken after the vegetables? Make sure you wash your hands before eating. I dont really like pasta.

:p I'm joking, good luck with your run :D

The only way to get better at running is to do it, a lot!

If you're having shin splints, try a new running shoe and stretch your calves a LOT before you do any type of running. When you're laying in bed, just point your toes down as far as you can and rotate at the ankle. Its what a lot of people did during basic to help theirs get better.

Diet is going to be important here too; oatmeal is a great source of carbs. One of the best out there. Its going to give you the energy you need to go the whole distance; not just the first 5 minutes like sugary carbs will give you.

Also, running is 80% mental. You have to overcome the mental barrier that is making your body want to quit. Trust me when I say this, the mind ALWAYS quits before the body.

great line
I'll admit, I stole it from a Drill Sgt. down in Benning.

That experience taught me its 100% true.

We gradually built up our ruck marching, and after our 6 miler I thought I would never make the longer ones. Well the last one we did ended up being 17 miles due to bad navigation, took 7 hours with a 45lb ruck and about 15 pounds of other gear on but I kept my motivation and finished strong. My body hurt with every step, but I kept my focus on how bad I wanted to finish.

Not possible in 10 days, just get yourself out running, get out running everyday for an hour or so and you will start building up your endurance and chuck in some fartlek training in there.

I can't really comment though as I've become something of a fat knacker by Army standards. :D

Actually it is possible
And I did do it...

Anyways, we did the run, and my body got acustomed to the cement, cause I had to run to every practice. So I finished in the main pack, and I wasnt tired afterwards. Thanks for the advice Dave, it did help. Thanks everyone for the encouragment. I made JV.

I'm up to it again, there really is no deadline, but I'd like it to happen ASAP!!!
Anyways, I need to run faster, I'm always the slowest guy on my team when we do suicides, and there are quite a lot of out of shape fat guys there. Basically, I want to increase my sprinting speed. I don't know if this would involve running faster each day, or getting more leg muscle, I just need a bit of guidance.

Thanks :D

I would do sprints/stairs. Focus on explosive speed. When you do sprints, run for around 50 meters, rinse and repeat. The faster you can get up to top speed the better.

Jacking up your legs helps with sprint speed too, but after gym remember to stretch out all your muscles very well so you dont slow down because of the increased muscle mass.

By Stairs do you mean regular stairs? Like getting up and down a floor?

Yea regular stairs. Its ideal if you have some sort of stadium-type thing near where you live. You really only need a flight of about 10. Try to go up as fast as you can. Dont skip steps. A bonus is if you can keep your abs contracted.
Try to do as many as you can at top speed.

:rofl I love that commercial! It's always reminded me of my late buddy Peewee when the cops got after him on foot for public drunk. I've never seen anyone run that fast through the woods. :rofl
