I have a laptop with a Geforce FX Go 5200 but cannot install any new nvidia drivers.

THEY DONT SUPPORT THE GO CARDS!!! ARRGHHHH....

I mean wtf...!? They release mobile gpu's and then decide to forget about supporting them.

My laptop is a Medion (www.medion.de) one running windows xp and has the 43.03 drivers installed. I checked the OEM site, but they dont support it either. But for some reason the drivers i got with the laptop do work... but it would be so nice if i could actually upgrade my drivers as time goes by.

Has anyone else had this problem. Maybe even found a solution?

Many thx

I'm not exactly sure how this would work with the FX Go series, but I know you can force-install any reference driver on a laptop.

Taking my system as an example (specs listed in sig) - the GeForce4 440 Go is merely a GeForce4 MX 440. So, whenever I feel like updating the drivers, I download a set I know supports the MX 440. I unzip them and use Device Manager to update the driver. I ignore the warning about the driver not being compatible with the hardware, let the wizard finish, reboot and all is well. I don't even need to hack the .inf file because my laptop's native resolution is 1600x1200. My card shows up under device manager as a GeForce4 MX 440, but in my advanced display properties it's a GeForce4 440 Go.

For your machine, I would guess that you could force-install your drivers as a GeForce FX 5200 by using the same procedure I described above. However, I won't guarantee it will work. Also, you may have to edit the .inf file if your laptop's native resolution is 1400x1050. I'm not sure how you would do that because as I said, my screen's native is 1600.
