GT300 score X13000 in 3DMark Vantage?

If GT300 is ~ equal in die size to a 5870X2, even assuming ATI does NOTHING in the way of improving cohesion between dies (shared memory, lower latency interconnect, whatever), which is hopefully not the case, it MUST equal ~ 2x the performance of the 5870 to stay competitive.

However, another way to look at it is that if they manage to pump out a GT300 which fits in the same package size as the G200b, isn't pummeled by higher wafer costs accentuated by low yields, it could cream the 5870. If they improved the efficiency of their texture units, stripped out unnecessarily heavy DP support in the consumer version (maybe using something akin to 4870 "software" DP interpolation), they could have a monster part. It makes me question why they are going for so large a die if that is the case.

Wolfenstein has no way for AA to be applied so far. Pretty lame, since it uses the pretty old Id Tech 4 engine, which supported AA fine...

Come on, people... everyone here tends to follow hardware news on several sites on the internet, plus our own debates, I think we should not let ourselves follow rumors or feelings based on incomplete information.

It could be (quite) possible the GT300 architecture can beat the RV870 one, other story would be a single GT300 vs the 5870 x2, but we should wait and see the real news, so it's still some time until we get that.

It's just my opinion, of course, but we don't need rumors, but real info, so... let's just say, the best is yet to come ;)

I know that Nvidia this time around will make sure that GTX300 is something AMD and Intel just can dream about and watch with wide open jaw.

Anyway all this is about rumors. Provided the rumors about GT300 and ATI Cypres chip sizes are right, it would be nVidia gigantic failure if the GT300 was not significantly faster than the ATI Cypres (HD 5870).

Ati strategy is to built much smaller/cheaper performance GPUs and scale them up using multi-GPU solution. Looks like the strategy did work very good with the 4000 series chips. The ATI 5000 series card should compete well with the new generation NVidia DX11 cards. At least I hope so.

I have no doubt the GT300 and 5870x2 will be real beasts. One thing is certain is they will be better than anything before them. Which is faster, only time will tell.

Unfortunately there aren't any real "pushing the limits" PC games announced right now. Hopefully DX11 will take off and show some benefits to the end user.
