Cool! Very interesting news. So even the HD 5850 has standard 1GB GDDR5 memory?

Looking forward to their official introduction on September 10th.

Man I can't wait to get the scoop on these. It feels like its been forever since we have gotten to look at a new architecture.

CJ post from B3D Forum (http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1325233&postcount=1936):

Some things VR-Zone didn't mention yet:

- display outputs: DVI/DVI/DP or DVI/HDMI/DP. ATi Eyefinity support as of Cat 9.10 (8.66). Converter is included.
- "Feel the power of more than 2 teraFLOPS plowing through the most demanding games."
- "Get up to 1.8X of a graphics performance boost with ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode."

So basically all the branding info partners need to make their boxes and stuff.

Also have info about first LRB sampledates to partners, but that's for another topic I guess.

I don't know who CJ is, but it looks like most people at B3D trust him.

Just a guess, how do you think these will compare to the 275/285? +10% +20%?

Guessing +40-60% depending on the game.

I really can't wait to see how these guys perform. If they take a sizable lead over the 285GTX and they're reasonably priced, I predict a sharp increase in AMD gfx sales! (nana2)

CJ is some industry inside whos always leaking things. ;)

Mot of the info known about the 4870 and GTX280 before they came out was leaked from him, I have no doubt his info is accurate.

TechPowerUp is reporting the price for the HD 5870 US $299.- , they use as a source DonamimHaber (http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&js=y&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.donanimhaber.com%2FATi_HD_5870_ GTX_285ten_daha_ucuz_olacak-15397.htm&sl=tr&tl=en&history_state0=) so who knows how true it is. At that site they also talk about the HD 5850 at $249.-, see the above translated link. If I buy ATI again I'm more interested about the price for the dual GPU card they say to be launched in November.

Here the TechPowerUp (http://www.techpowerup.com/102342/Radeon_HD_5870_Aggressively_Priced_Report.html) article

Radeon HD 5870 Aggressively Priced: Report
According to a fresh report by Donanim Haber, AMD's next performance graphics accelerator, the Radeon HD 5870, codenamed "Cypress" is expected to be aggressively priced, at US $299. At that price, it intends to be highly competitive against GeForce GTX 285 from NVIDIA. The secret-sauce behind the price could be the 40 nm fab process on which the GPU is being built, which allows upping transistor counts while maintaining significantly smaller die-sizes compared to 55 nm.

There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the specifications of the GPU, including what level of performance with existing application could it end up offering. Some sources, such as ChipHell, which are one of the first to leak pictures of components related to various Evergreen family products claim the Cypress GPU to have an almost 100% increase in stream processor counts compared to RV770, while others remain conservative expecting it to be around 50%. With this kind of a pricing, Cypress could trigger market-wide changes in GPU pricing, if it ends up with a good price/performance ratio at $299.

Cypress is expected to be launched on 22 September, close to two weeks after the company unveils the Evergreen family of DirectX 11 compliant GPUs on September 10. Market availability is expected in October. In related news from the same report, the enthusiast-grade accelerator that uses two of these GPUs, codenamed "Hemlock", is expected to be out in November.

I don't have the Crysis Warhead but Crysis runs OK with HD 4870 X2, the rumors are that the HD 5870 should be at least as good.

Whoah, whoah. Totally kickass upgrade from my current card to a top-of-the-line ATI for only $299? I am getting this. Yep, no doubt, I will buy this if these pricing estimates are right.

More Details about ATI Eyefinity Technology
Published on Thursday, August 27 2009 11:19 pm by Visionary

ATI Eyefinity technology is something pretty cool that will be available the upcoming Radeon HD 5800 series. It allows you to extend your game view across 3 displays like the Matrox TripleHead2Go except that it gonna be much more powerful. That's over 12 megapixels at 2560 x 1600 resolution for the ultimate gaming experience. It is ideal for flight sim, racing games, role paying games, real-time strategy, first-person shooter and even multimedia apps. So how powerful exactly this card is?

This card sports a 2nd gen TeraScale engine that delivers more than 2 teraFLOPS of processing power. With so much power pack inside, it supports a new anisotropic filtering method too. If one isn't enough, you can get up to 1.8X graphics performance boost by pairing them up. The launch is around the corner and reviews will start popping out by middle of September Stay tuned for more information.

5870 isn't really the "top of the line" that would be 5870x2 which won't come until some months later. I don't know the actual release date but it will be later than 5870

hmm...i wonder if we can use our 4870 for something...i am keen to move to the 5xxx high end one what eva taht comes out (non xfire) but u know like nvidia physx...i would love to not just use the 4870 as a paper weight cause the card still does very well for me at 1920x res, all the games i play, run fine. aside from crysis which runs fine at 2xaa.
