2x1GB DDR2 400Mhz Corsair XMS
XFX 9800GT
Windows XP SP3

I've run this system flawlessly for less than a year, never BSOD. Then one day I decided to install Hackintosh (iDeneb 10.5.4), ran a system update, came back found the PC asleep, keyboard was lit. I pressed the keyboard keys/clicked the mouse and it did not wake up. I had to flick the PSU switch off/on to get the PC to boot, then the OS X would not boot. So I decided to try and put Windows XP SP3 back on and at the GUI part of the install, it would restart every time, at random parts of the install. I turned ACPI APIC support off in the BIOS because with it on, I could not even boot the XP installation. Could my mobo be going bad? I tried another CPU (C2D E6320) and nothing changed. Is my Q6600 going bad? Any pointers?

Sounds like a bad motherboard or graphics card to me.

Try it without the 9800GT in there.

Speedstep was the culprit. Disabled it and I installed XP. Who knew.
