Yerli was keen to stress that between now and 2012, we shouldn't expect games to advance much beyond what they look like today. "Games 'til 2012 will not look very different than [they do today], since engines are bound to console cycles." Yerli forecasts that the next major CryEngine upgrade will arrive in 2012, around the same time he believes the next generation of console hardware will arrive. That said, he fully acknowledges the strength of the Wii and the prospect of an elongated console life cycle and warned that if a new generation didn’t arrive in 2012-2013, then "it could be a long time."

Well don't make games for consoles!

With his logic, all game should be made and designed for the Wii then ported to the rest of the consoles and PC.

Unfortunately, with the industry the way it is, they have to go multi platform to stay in business and be able to release huge titles like Crysis and continue using their own engines.

If you want to see Crysis 2 on UE 3.0 or Source force then to stay PC only...

The key is to build a PC version better than a console version and then scale DOWN... most companies build a console version and then scale UP.

I believe one of the goals of the Cryengine 3 was to make it easier to scale DOWN, which cold have a lasting effect on PC ports.

i dont think that will happen because then people wont need to upgrade and nvidia/amd would lose business

this is the reason we won't see lifelike graphics in games for like 25 years

so graphics cant get much better, does this mean they will try for a story and gameplay now?

Lol... we're talking business people here. So, no ... no gameplay or story for you.

I know some are bothered by this, but I definitely am not. Maybe it's my old age, or something, but I enjoy the way games look today and I'm not all that concerned to see cycles slow down. In fact, I think they were unnaturally high before.

Well, we've been stuck with the same level of graphics for 3 or 4 years now... how slow do you want it to go?
