Is it possible to water cool this card? I know you can do the GeFrorce, but can you cool the quadro with water?

Go here....
http://www.swiftnets.com/

The MCW50 fits all Geforce cards including the FXs so it should be no problem mounting it on your Quadro.

thanks, but... the quadro has this metal heatsink and fan.. will it work with that? Do i have to remove the entire thing? Also, will swiftek stuff work with koolance systems?

thx

The heatsink and fan have to be removed in order to mount the water block. As long as your using the same size tubing then you should have no problem using a swiftech GPU cooler on a Koolance system.

I really suggest that you take a look at a few reviews on Koolance & Swiftech watercooling setups so you can have a good idea on how watercooling works and what is involved in getting it set up before you go any further.

thanks..but if i remove the heatsink, won't the memory be exposed? I didn't think the water block was big enough to cover that large an area. I thought it just took care of the chip itself.

Thx

It does just cover the GPU, not the memory chips. You can purchase individual ramsinks for the memory if you like, but it is highly unlikely that it would be necessary. The amount of heat disipated by the watercooling setup is vastly superior to the aircooling from factory and your whole video card will be much cooler as a result.

I think you'd need something to cool the RAM... DDR2 gets mighty hot (or is there a Quadro card based on the NV35?)

I know of several watercooled 5800 Ultras which are running just fine without any cooling on the memory. I believe that heat problems in the 5800s stemmed from running the core so high in conjunction with the DDR2, which runs hot to begin with. Once you take care of all that heat coming off the core, the rest of the card is just a lot cooler.

But like I said, he could slap on some ramsinks to be on the safe side if he wanted.

Thanks..i have a final two questions:

1) koolance have a spacer product for use with heatsinks, so that you just remove the fan..i think that could work, no?

2) the case i/o panel on the back of the koolance has no usb/firewire slots.. what happens if i buy a motherboard that has those...how will that work? Where will they stick out of the case?

Thanks

1. I'm not familiar with it but from what I saw on their site it could be good as long as it makes good contact w/ both the stock heatsink and the waterblock.

2. Every mobo I've bought has come with it's own i/o panel so you just pop out the old one and pop in the new one. I've only bought Abit & Asus so I can't be 100% sure everyone manufacturer includes them.

i'm looking at a pic of the fx 1000, and there are no mounting holes to be seen..i'm not sure if this is going to work.. the guy at koolance said you don't remove the heatsink.

If i just left the quadro fx without the water coolant, would it burn up? would its fan be enough? or woulud i need to inlclude a case fan

No, it won't burn upand it should work for several years without a hitch. It'll just run hot so it wouldn't hurt to put a side case fan.

btw, the quadro fx 1000 looks similar to the geforce fx 5800 without the extra ram sinks.

You definitely need cooling on DDR2 memories. Don't even power up a card using DDR2 RAMs without some form of thermal cooling (RAMsinks, waterblock, etc.) in place.
