I dont understand why people use Mac... all they are doing is holding everyone back by making developers create software\hardware for two different platforms :)

If all of the developement resources that are Mac related were put into PC developement, you know how much farther we would be technology wise?

I would regulary say "I don't care" about a Mac release, but with the new G5s, Macs suddenly seem very appealing.

Trust me in a couple of months your urge for having a G5 will wear away, just the way my desire to have a 17" powerbook wore away.

Mac's still have a long way to go and untill the software selection for Mac's increase and their prices decrease stay away from them.

They are currently surviving by milking a select bunch of people who vainly beleive that Mac's are superior. Their prices are just ridiculous (even with education discounts).

Mac's are like expensive hookers... sure they are appealing.

Doom 3 on the mac will be wicked with a G5, IF you get the dual 2ghz one. The cpu will be challenged as much as the gpu, so dont get a state of the art 1.6ghz g5...

as for the release date...no one knows!! maybe 2004!!!

exactly. the new G5 w/radeon 9800 pro is a beast. good thing they're expensive, or i'd be pissed that is switched away from the mac.

its good (in some ways) that apple is finally making progress with their processors. the new G5 is made by IBM, instead of motorola, who made the G4 chip. i think apple got fed up with motorola, cause it took them several years to get them up to 1.4 ghz, and over eight months to boost them past 500 mhz in their early life.

plus, the new case for the G5 is slick.

First of all, the only mac's that will beable to play it are the ones with the 9800pro, i get the feeling those will be rare : O

and second of all, JC commented that the way doom3 is coded that it can not in any way benefit from 64bit. i think the whole game is made assumeing a 32bit processor so it has super optmized preformance.

lucky for amd the opertron runs both really fast, i have no idea how the mac handles 32bit heh!

well, you can always get the PC version and BIOS flash the 9800...although it won't have that special connector for their LCD panels, so you'll have to use a reg monitor...
