Ive talked to a few people and they said it should revert to a 266 fsb but it looks like an nforce 2 for me tomorrow if i can find the money somehow

if im not mistaken, the kt266 uses a 266 mhz fsb. the 2600+ u mentioned obviously has 333fsb, so it wont work. any mobo ive seen with 266 fsb also says it supports up to 2600+ w/throroughbred core at 266fsb. the processor u got has a barton and runs at 333 fsb. wow, im repeating myself.

the short story is that u need a new mobo to support the higher bus speed of the processor.

Regardless if the board supports 333 or not, the cpu will still work, just have to run a slower FSB ;)
Did you clear the cmos before you installed it? you will need to do that, use the jumper to clear it, or just take out the battery. I had to run my Barton2500+ @ 266 until my pc3200 arrived, worked no problems

just as a side not, the best AMD forums IMO are
AMDMB (http://www.amdmb.com)
