I believe he works for them so he gets his stuff for free, but i am not 100% sure.

Kind of curious if they can/are doing it to the 295's.
Imo, with the next gen card's being so close, You would have to be a benchmark enthusiast to gain anything worthwhile. Bragging rights will be short lived (untill they announce the gt300 ver.).
I think they should have done this before the dx11 card rumors started.

Wow i cant wait to see how smooth solitaire runs with 4 way SLI.

What a load of bollocks, I like Nvidia cards but milking enthusiasts for every penny really pisses me off.

I'm pretty sure he said he got a discount. But nothing was free. Still he gets his hardware before any of us mere mortals.

Like I said in the news thread. In my opinion, this is for record breaking benchmark and stuff, not really gaming. But it could be a nice GPGPU platform!

atleast 1600w psu i think it needs

Nobody is forcing you to buy it. It's good that Nvidia is pushing things like this, otherwise we would be like couple steps behind with just ATI.

+1

SLI works and works well...sometimes.

Quad SLI will just put the load back onto the cpu anyway... in the two titles it'll work in.

Yep! And this will almost overload a 115V/15Amp circuit.
The required 2 KVA Unterruptible Power Supply will cost you more than the whole system :headexplode:

The title sounds so...dirty. :naughty:

I wish they would dedicate more time to single card improvement. Why not just focus on a card that can do as much as this 4-way SLI? That would be even better.

^^ I completely agree. It would be alot better in terms of heat, space, power, etc. Plus with a single GPU the amount of problems is drastically lower

Cause there's lot's of money to be made doing it this way?.

I just can't Imagine having 4 overpriced, on the way out, worn out card's at the same time to upgrade from. Then, will the next gen card's be set up for 4-way either?. At least that question should be answered in their promo. Like I said, it's a little too late in the gtx200 game, to be pulling this off without some sort of promise of future proofing.

Tis the nature of the beast. A video card as powerful as 4-way SLi would be overkill, therefore eliminating the necessity of upgrading often as Nvidia/ATi would like. These companies would lose money in the long run. It's only feasible for them to release slightly upgraded video cards every 5 months or so and market them as the next big thing to keep the cash flowing.

We can't forget that the next DX is just around the corner. Even if it suck's, wouldn't you feel behind the times if you went for 4-way 285's and 6mo later you had last gen DX?.
I mean, I don't really care for DX10, but I don't feel right not being up to date for the money either. I don't know, maybe it's just me (you guy's decide), but it just seem's (if anything) inappropriate timing.

Does anyone know why nvidia can't do this on one card?. CR?

Well put it this way, 4 cards are always going to be faster than 1. Even if Nvidia came out with a new card that was as fast as 4 GTX 285 someone is going to want something faster than that. If they can afford 4 GTX 285s then they will buy 4 GTX 380s when they come out.

You have to keep time frame in mind. Nvidia WILL make a card that is as fast as 4 x GTX 285 and everyone will need to have it once that comes out. It might be 2 years before that happens though. By using 2 way, 3 way, or 4 way SLI you can have performance that you never would have been able to get otherwise. When the 8800GTX came out it was a beast of a card and could do everything that most people wanted. A pair of these cards would give you performance better than a single GTX 280 which took another 2 years before it came out.

When Crysis came out you basically needed 2 8800GTX to be able to run it. If you were gaming on a 30" screen you could forget turning up all of the eye candy. By having 4 way SLI anyone who really wants to can pack their computer full of GPU power and play the game at that resolution now instead of waiting 3 years for the technology to catch up.

While 4 way SLI is definitely pushing the envelope I could actually see it as being useful in those extreme cases. Think 2560 x 1600 @ 120hz in order to use the 3d glasses on a 30" monitor. You're going to need one hell of a system to pull that off and you just might run out of GPU before you do CPU in that case.
