Just noticed on Symantec forum that new Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security 2010 are now available free if you already subscribed Norton Anti-Virus/Internet Security 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. You can download the update by signing in your Norton Account.
Now downloading Norton Internet Security 2010 at 23%. :D
Oh boy, the worst crapware available is out!
Norton 360 / Internet Security is literally uninstalled only be a complete wipe and reload. I've dealt with both hundreds of times and hate it dearly.

I don't know why anyone would use Symantec/Norton. It's hands down one of the worst products I've ever dealt with as an IT guy.
Heck, I say if you are going to use AV, get Avira Free and move on with life. NEVER pay for AV software.

If you are going to pay for AV, pony up for NOD32 or Kaspersky. They are the only two AV products worth running, although Forefront isn't too shabby in the corporate environment.

and it starts again, the anti symantec bull****. every symantec news always atracks trolls.
symantec software changed over the years, it is no longer bloated, runs faster then other AV software and consumes tiny ammount of ram.

If you're talking about Endpoint, then I'll agree with you. SAV really hit its stride in 10.1 and 10.2 and Endpoint has been solid since MR4. I know that last years Internet Security has caused my technicians just as many problems as in years past. It's a pain in the ass to uninstall.

I just don't think Symantec does it's job. I can't tell you how many clients I have who buy laptops/desktops with the latest Norton/Symantec and they get all kinds of infections, not to mention misc problems with certain software (Norton's Firewall blocks a little too much ;) ). Heck, it's really funny when you show them how many viruses they have and then hear them say "I just purchased a subscription for 3 years!!".
This is one of the reasons we switched our clients over to Trend Micro this summer. We no longer purchase Symantec for clients. But hey, no AV is perfect. However, there are some better than others.

i'm talking about symantec products in general. i agree few years ago they were terrible that slowly started changing in 2008, with 2009 being better and the trend continued.
i thought 2009 was quite good. gone back to a small memory footprint

Nice find bud, I wasn't expecting a free upgrade tbh. I also hated Norton but NIS 2009 changed my opinion fast. They had a really nice product with 09 and I hope this new one continues on the same path.
Edit- Upgrade was flawless. Didn't even have to uninstall 2009, their installer took care of everything. I've been messing with it for a few and so far I'm impressed with 2010. It looks better, its faster, and works great with Win7 (my tray icon is back!)

I haven't tried it, but every review I've read about the product says it's finally where it should be, excellent detection rate, small footprint, very quick boot times....
I've hated Symantec for years, might have to change that.

That's not true and the norton removal tool works really well. There may be bits of the uninstaller left but you won't have any issues with what is left.
I am not saying detection is better with norton than any other av suite, but the software is pretty good at managing system resources.

Most of the really infected machines that come into the shop either have AVG or McAfee, adn a far smaller percentage has Norton. I've used NAV 2009 Gamer Edition for awhile and I think it's fantastic.
Like someone else said on here the norton removal tool actually does a pretty good job of getting all the symantec crap off your system.
I use SAV10/corp exclusively and it works very well for me.

+1
NIS 2009 really shocked me how light/impressive it was. Havn't upgraded to 2010 yet, just gonna wait and c for any issues if any show up. 2009 running perfect as it is.(nana2)

Actually, I stopped using all Norton products about 3 years ago because of the many documented issues (i.e. poor detection rates in their AV software, high load on system resources, endless bugs and pesky notifications).
A few months ago, I did some research regarding AV suites for my new build (I've just used AVG and Avira for the last couple years with good results) and Norton AV '09 was at the top of the list. It had a higher detection rate, used less resources, had a more user-friendly GUI and retained a very small footprint. I went with it and haven't regretted it for a second. The other 4 pc's in my household still use assorted free apps for AV, but I'm seriously considering buying a "family package" in December (makes it easy to remember renewal dates).
