It's good to see that companies are moving away from DX10 to DX11.

DX11 is another marketing move. We will be in DX9 era for awhile now. You might see a few nice things from DX10 and DX11 and that's about it.

^^^ You mean like DX10.1, which nVidia is supposed to have soon.

Every time there is some post about AMD/ATI you come up with some negatives, what the heck is your BIG problem.

nVidia is also getting the DX11 hardware are you going to be negative about it than, I strongly doubts. In fact I know you wont.

Because consoles cant use DX10. Until consoles move outta the dark ages we are stuck with dx9 ports that will just have a few crappy DX10 functions strapped on.

I didn't mention AMD/ATI. It applies to Nvidia as well.

Not entirely true. Unlike PCs, consoles don't have to deal with compliancy and specification and can very well deal with the new APIs without explicitly supporting the later shader models. Case in point being the 360s DirectX derivative API which has been updated along with later DX versions to support the newer features like multi-threaded rendering. It's not a coincidence that roughly half of all DX10 games have a console counterpart and I imagine the same will be true of many DX11 games.

People keep seeing DirectX as a hardware specification when it's really just a software solution. The hardware compliancy requirements are ultimately just arbitrary as there is far more to DirectX than shader models.

I believe the slow adaptation of DX10 games had little to do with console games.

The main reason was that DX10 was supported only by Vista OS and we all know Vista was not exactly hot seller so there was not much reason for game developers to make any DX10 games soon.

The reason for very few DX10.1 games was that nVidia was not supporting it.

Now DX11 is supported by Vista, Windows 7, ATI and soon nVidia, we should see quite a few DX11 games soon.

Off course hell_of_doom227 is 100% wrong, DX11 is not just some marketing gimmick, guess he forgot to read the details about DX11, many such articles exist or even the OP article is good starting point.

no one can say whether dx11 will be a marketing gimmick.... only time will tell... everyone said dx10 was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread especially with the crysis videos... turned out crysis looks almost identical in dx9 with a tweaked config

They just did and it's named DX11. ;)
One of the most important features of dx11 is that it works on dx9 & dx10 class hardware on vista and win7.

There is no need to write support for dx10 anymore, just dx11 with different profiles to sm3, sm4 and sm5 class hardware.

DX11 is meaningless for most consumers.

Currently yes, but soon DX9 is XP only feature and DX10 will be deserted.
DX11 will be the one which will reign on vista and win7.

DX11 doesn't bring too much over DX10 unlike DX10 over DX9. I think we are start going to see true DX10 games with some extra features from DX11 but nothing major.

Dx9 will still be fully supported on Dx11 hardware and on Vista and Win7. Arguably, it will have more market share than either dx10 or dx11.

True, but hopefully DX10 will vanish and dx9 will be there for legacy option for XP and games which do not push the envelope.
I do mean all this talk in sense that shader model 3 and 4 will be used from within dx11, not the sm5 hardware will eat everything in 5 months. ;)

DX10 will take market share slowly. We wont see nothing from DX11 for long time, perhaps few details here and there nothing noticeable. Reason is that only 2% of users will run DX11 cards.
Crysis was done using DX9 and no other games comes close to as far as graphics which means DX11 is fairly unrealistic for at least 1 year.

I would expect all dx10 coding to end within a year and be replaced by shader model 4 profile of DX11.

The actual usage of shader model 5 stuff in a larger scale, that takes time.

We are seeing improvements up to ~38% in the average FPS when comparing feature level 10 and 11 on the same hardware.

The following graph show Battleforge DX11 17% faster. The source is PCLab.pl HD 5870 review. Here is Google translate (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=pl&tl=en&u=http://pclab.pl/art38674-8.html&prev=hp&rurl=translate.google.ca&usg=ALkJrhjKmwi-tSRbClGtmyOz8WgHcFRj9w).

That's almost like the DX 10 - DX10.1 performance increase then isn't it?

Win 7 should take care of that. Vista should never have been released. I don't know about you guys but I'm kinda cranky that I paid $150 for an OS that only lasted 2 years. Win 7 should be free to anyone who bought Retail Vista.

What is your problem with DirectX 11. Every-time there is some post about it you come up with some negatives. Are you against progress and innovation? If nVidia was first out with DX11, would you also be so negative? I don't think so.
