Hello,
I recently downloaded aTuner and under the options of Direct3D Anti-Aliasing, I noticed there was a method called 4x SuperSampling..Anyway my question is..what's the difference between this AA style and the 4xS one located inside the Nvidia performance tab?
Thanks.

They are....
THE SAME! :p

Aaa ok thanks. :)
I thought they were different because on the top part of aTuner it was listed as 4xSS and the other 4xS.

why is supersampling even there? i thought multisampling was a lot faster....does supersampling look better?

Different way to do it... They have different strengths, really. MSAA can look as good as SSAA, but it takes a better algorithm to do it at good speed. SSAA is MUCH better for old games that use 2D alpha textures (e.g., the grates in Half-Life) because those textures are antialiased as well as all of the objects in the scene. MSAA cannot do that.
So, 4xS is MSAA plus some SSAA, same with 6xs (or 8xs? I can't remember).
Please note, I might be full of crap. :D
I beleive the 4xS is 4XMSAA with a 2XSSAA (possibley a 1x2, I can't recall). It is a mixed mode.
Quite nice actually, though relatively useless in games for the GF4 line.

You know, I would say the same thing about 4xS. But then, I saw UT2k3 at 640x480 with 4xS antialiasing getting a surprisingly playable framerate.
Sure, if you're using a monitor, you might as well use 1024x768 with some AF. But, if you're on a TV... I don't think you could beat it.
