what fps would u expect to get on a computer like mine in HL2? You reckon i'd need to upgrade to get a solid 30fps?? i think anything much lower than that is pretty much unplayable...but in hl2's case, i might be able to reconsider my lowest acceptable fps..heres my comp:

512 DDR (333) Ram
Geforce4 Ti 4200
AMD athlon 2400XP
Jetway Polaris 400 Mobo
SB live 5.1
Seagate 7400rpm 80GB Hdd

Other stuff that doesn't concern Performance:

17" Benq Flat Screen
Microsoft Intelli crap
some 1337 case with lotso led's n fans
Liteon 40x12x48 cd burner

the fps you get will depend entirely on the settings you use..

the e3 demo was running on a top of the line rig with a 9800pro in it.. and it looked flawless for the most part.. therefore you should probably get decent fps up to a reasonable res...

its a highly scalable game apparently therefore I doubt you need to change anything to play it... :)

Because the engine is highly scalable, you should be able to get decent performance out of your machine at 1024x768 with most options maxed out. Like everything else, though your best results with come with a whole lot of trial and error. But I would start at 10x7 with all options maxed with no AA or AF and tweak from there.

i hope so.....my rig is just slightly slower than his. i cant wait for this game....but by then, i might have a new mobo/cpu/ram, or just a new vid card.

I plan to run it at 800x600 with full details, if i can't get a almost constant 30FPS i'm gonna lower the detail little by little until i get a playable frame rate (almost constant 30 or above).

Athlon XP 2000+ @ Stock speeds
Gainward GeForce 3 Ti-200 Golden Sample @ Stock Speeds (200/450)
256Megs PC-2700 DDR (I plan to get another 256Meg stick soon)

Well, it will certainly play better on your PC than mine. :p

Hopefully, I'll have a brand new PC in time for Doom III. :D

since my upgrade i am seeing games in new light :D

i think amd 2500+,2x512 ddr333 and radeon 9500pro should give me nice looking HL2 at 10x7 all maxed...maybe evn 12x10?

/me hoping

from the looks of half life 2, it seems like its gonna be another heavily cpu dependant game... all those physics...

oops... I made a typo in my GeForce 3's stock speeds, Its 200/450. Sometimes i overclock it to 220/480.

1024x768@32bit w/4xAA & 8xAF in the mid 40's is what I'm shooting for with HL2.

ah, good. i thought it would be some super game or some rubbish like that...actually, i dont even know why i asked that question...neway, i dont think that aa does much difference on my comp. i like to keep it off so the mouse has NO lag at all. like, in bloodrayne i like to turn off bumpmapping to get that little extra edge on killing those fierce german dudes.

I could never do that, for me eye candy is a little more important then high FPS.

P.S. Metal Slug pwnz j00.
