Nearly a week ahead of its launch, Dutch retailer Salland Automatisering briefly listed a Radeon HD 5870 1 GB accelerator from a now-masked manufacturer (we are fairly sure it's Sapphire, looking at its part number "21161-00-50R" that resembles the part number scheme of other products from this manufacturer). Since Salland's pricing is usually consistent with those of other major European retailers, it gives a coarse indication of what you would have to pay for a Radeon HD 5870 1 GB: 268.90 EUR (excluding taxes), 319.99 EUR including taxes applicable in The Netherlands. AMD's Radeon HD 5870 1 GB accelerator is slated for September 23. It also comes in a 2 GB variant priced slightly higher, and an Eyefinity Edition planned. Salland was quick to withdraw the listing.

Cool! That's IMHO a pretty nice price. Certainly lower than I expected. This means that a HD 5850 is hopefully considerably lower too. (I'm really interested in that card)

Thanks for the info.

I am buying this card :) My SLI GTX280 can go to bros machine and i will be happy with single ATI 5870 until Nvidia releases GTX300 and decide to perhaps get second ATI 5870 for crossfire or ditch ATI and go for SLI GTX300.

Btw, I am getting 2Gb version cause i don't think 1Gb of memory is enough for such GPU. Grand Theft Auto IV is going to be happy with 2Gb.

You gotta love Intel platform, so available for Crossfire and SLI - no limitation.

Is there an official release date for the Radeon 5800 series cards in the U.S.?

What other graphics cards cost $268 euros right now? That may give us an idea of how much it'll cost in the US.

Unfortunately that doesn't work that well. Hardware is always more expensive here.
Usually it's more like $399 => €399 :(

Is it possible to run Tri Xfire ?

Of course! Why not!:)

The price for Europe seems ok to me and I'll probably go for the 5870 2GB.

Hopefully I can get my hands on 1 HD5870 next week.

I am just going to use 1 card.

More than enough for all games. :)

This is tempting. I've never liked ATi because of their drivers, even though I was in love with the X1900XTX which was my last purchased ATi card. I think I'll wait on Nvidia's next series of video cards. Besides, physx support is always a plus.

Just to get an idea of how a 2 and 3 card configuration works...Seems to be a beast when applying 8X antialiasing :D

I have some concerns about heat and sound based on that puny little outlet :(

Hopefully the card doesn't heat up too much.
