View Full Version : Stuck with 640x480 desktop mode :(
For some reasons, I have come back to Windows 98. The problem is that I install everything, but when I configure my GeForce4200 with 44.03 drivers and reboot to have my graphics card configured, it uses a 640x480x16bit@60Hz, and I cannot choose another resolution. I took a look at nVidia FAQ, I I saw there that is usually a problem with RAM memory, because 512 Mb is too much for Win98. I have removed one RAM slot, so I have 256 Mb now, but the problem is still there... may someone help me?
Is your monitor setup correctly ??
Right click on the desktop and click properties, then settings, if your graphics card is mentioned alongside 'Default Monitor' that is why you are stuck at 640x480.
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your monitor and install them properly via the 'Update driver' option in Device Manager.
If your monitor is setup correctly the above won't help at all and someone else might have an idea.
Hope this helps :)
thx SteveL. It says 'Philips 105S (105S2)'. I have installed the drviers from the CD-ROM that came with my monitor. I never had any problem with my old GeForce2 on Windows 98, neither with my current GeForce4200 on WinXP, but now i am again on Win98 and I don't know how to make it work :(
Does anybody know where to download the latest drivers for my monitor?
One other thing I thought might help, have you installed the latest DirectX ??
As far as I remember 98 came with DirectX 5 and 98SE with DirectX 6.0a (or 6.1 not sure)
Your GeForce drivers probably need at least DX7 or DX8 so that might be the problem ??
Have you been to Windows Update and bought you OS up to date ??
Hopefully someone else might have some ideas too ?? ;)
Some more info. about your system hardware would help too :)
