Nothing like Kevlar vests and helmets, in 120 degree heat... it's just plain nasty in the ME in the summer time.

A kevlar vest won't save you from an assault rifle from close range... well... if its thick enough it might, but then It would be damn heavy... The usual kevlar vest worn by soldiers are mostly for protection against grenade shrapnel and such stuff...
According to swedish radio news it was the local UK commander's lack of respect for some local cultural thing that drove the iraqis to start shooting...

Nope the troops were doing the usual house raids to remove weapons from people, some of them objected and followed them back and opened fire.

I can see it now:
Solider: Give me your guns
Citizen: Are smoking crack???
Solider: I said now
Citizen: what about the looters with WMDs?
..... eh, anyone else can finish this off, I'm just sad to see the loss of life.
In other news, the Brits have given that Iraqi town 48 hours to hand over the attackers. I have to ask, "or else what"?

Well our troops can get rather nasty if it is needed ;)
And I don't blame them at this point, the people in that town know who attacked the troops and if they were smart they will hand them over.

Apparently, so can the Iraqi... how many U.S. soliders have we lost since the "end" of the war?

Seriously I have never been there. I hear SD is a nice place but the weather is always the same, dry and warm.

It turns out they were military police and looked what the mob that attacked them did after...
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/afp/20030626/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_britain_unrest&e=1&ncid=
The British military policemen mounted a last stand Tuesday at a police station in Al-Majar Al-Kabir, around 200 kilometres (120 miles) north of Iraq second city of Basra, and were killed, possibly with their own weapons, after they refused to flee
Pull out the MP and sent in the god damn challengers to level the place.

I remember reading a comic, where some Iraqi's said, "Thanks for getting rid of Saddam, but get hell out".
Guess we shouldn't expect too much gratitude, after all we're there as a conquering force. :(

so if we are the "conquering force" they should either bow down or move the hell out:lol:
no other "conquering" force has gone so much out of its way to minimize the loss of life as much as the coalition has. Heh, no "conquering" force has been so patient with putting up with the stupidity from these terrorists killing our troops. I guess these Iraqis are too stupid to figure out that we aren't there to conquer and enslave them:o
