View Full Version : ASUS EAH5870 - "Unofficial" Review
Those red pci-e power connectors suit it to a T. Looking good.
Those red pci-e power connectors suit it to a T. Looking good.LOL. Yeah, the power supply has three red and three black power connectors.
I'd love if you could test the Asus voltage tweaking to see if it's worth it or not. If it is I'll probable get an asus 5850.Will do, but it will likely be one of the last tests I do. I'm using reference drivers now and I believe that the Asus driver needs to be used for the voltage tweaking.
I really would know the following:
What about the idle power consume with two (ore more) monitors attached?
There ist NOTHING to find around the net and the behavior of nVidia and the GT200 really p... me off!
Does the idle power keeps down with more than one monitor?
Thx alot!
RazorI don't have any devices that measure power consumption, but that's something I need to invest in. Are you aware of any software that measures power consumption accurately?

You can get a kill-a-watt for around $20. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882715001)

Hi Mike,
I think it's not possible to measure power consumption by software.
But one indicator schould be the clocks of the card.
If they're not going up, when connecting more than one device it should be the first right step on the way.
Looking at your last screen of the panel, the card should keep the really nice core/memory clock of 157/300...
By the way: I LOVE your 'unofficial' test... there is nothing above real user experience!

Here are some of the games that are likely to be used in determining the performance of a graphics card. The following list shows the games that were benchmarked in reviews of the Radeon 5870 and the number of times a particular game was used.

Although they are a bit expensive, I have no problem recommending Lian Li enclosures.

Water Cooled HD5870
http://nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=2098178&postcount=431Those temps with Furmark are impressive! Would you mind giving me the options you used when running Furmark? I'll post my temps with air-cooling, which will obviously be higher, in this thread.
Nice :D
Can't wait for the full thing to be posted.

Sure Mike,
I ran it windowed so I could keep an eye on the temps.
Stability test, unchecked full screen, 1280x1024, 2xAA. I just let it run a few mins. I had CCC overdrive opened and 2 instances of GPU-Z to track all the temps. Also, my core was at 900mhz. Ram still stock.
Its funny, there is nothing fancy there just some ram sinks, mosfet sinks and the D-Tek Fuzion GFX 2 block. I had everything so I didnt need to spend anything more to watercool it.

Silverstone cases are top notch too. I've used both. The TJ07 should have had 2 x 120s at the back though, not 80mm fans :( I prefer to not hear my PC.

Wow that's a tight fit. I really like to have at least 1 slot between the cards for airflow.
These things run so cool I'm not even worried about it.
