BFG vs. EVGA

I have a BFG 285 GTX right now. It's a good card, but if I had it to do all over again, I would go with EVGA. No particular reason, I just feel like that's the better card.

All cards are made by the same manufacturer right? Then shipped of to company's(evga, xfx, bfg, asus)so they can put there sticker on, Adjust over-clocks, Add warranty & coolers, T-shirts!

Well that's what ive always been lead to believe from reading these forums!

Actually you would be suprised to know that the some cards, including the GTX 260's vary from vendor to vendor. For example, most vendors use a 4 phase power solution on GTX 260, EVGA uses 6.

That's great to know. Thanks for clearing that up jAkUp... unfortunately it's something that they don't seem to advertise too well... or atleast if they do it's not mentioned in most reviews / articles.... does the GTX 285 feature similar power circuitry advancements over competitors?

I usually buy things based on small differences like that. Since the Pentium 4 days I've always shopped for motherboards with more phases in their power solutions (usually Gigabyte / Abit *cry* )... that would definetly sway my video card decision based on what you've told me.



On a slightly un-related note.... does anyone have any first-hand experience with Gainward...? They don't deal in the US since the 5xxx nvidia days but I always wanted to try their cards out... non-refence cooling / pcb always seemed like it would provide some decent benefits.

That is sort of true. Usually, reference cards are made by Nvidia, and shipped to each partner. But aside from the reference cards, anything after that is designed in house (based on the reference card) and built by a PCB company. I could be wrong, but I believe that is how it works...

Well life got in the way and my cat put its claws right through the screen of my touch screen phone :thumbdwn:

So I had to go get a new phone so waiting for a few more weeks I guess :(

BTW the Samsung Rogue is outstanding! The stupid data plan you have to get with it is not.

My EVGA 8800gts 640 had memory errors after about 1.5 years. A total of 10 days passed between me sending the card in and receiving a brand new 8800gtx as a replacement. Total cost to me was just under $10 for the shipping of my dead card.

That's why I just bought another EVGA for my new build.

evga.....hands down for me...ive had them all and i must say 99.8% of the time evga will go outa there way to make it right....jakup being here is a plus but me personally he didnt influence my choice what so ever the track record of CS and just plain out getting freaky that evga does i mean come on they made tools for you to oc there cards...if thats not confidence in there products then i dont know what it is....my whole rig is evga that could be evga...oh and they wont hold it against me for removing stock coolers and putting on waterblocks like the others will....

I saw evga's step-up getting a bad rap but I don't really know why... I had a 7800gt and then the 7900gt came out and I was able to step-up without paying much at all. Went smoothly for me, no complaints about evga :)

Are you the same jAKUp that said how awesome the 2GPU on one board was ("Jitter? What's jitter?") and then later said of a newer card, "And this one doesn't have the jitter problems!" Perhaps the same jAKUp who works for eVGA who released the single worst 680i motherboard that they quickly replaced with a newer revision when the older one had memory controller and hard drive southbridge?

I hope eVGA's got better quality than it did a couple years ago. Personally, I recommend BFG if you can get the same price and upgrade potential.

Had to send back a GTX260 OC to BFG, they offer a lifetime warranty.

Card was 15 months old & had started to lock up/overheat here & there.

6 days later after sending card back to BFG UK i get the replacement.


A GTX285 OCFU!!!!
