Yeah I was just making a point of not comparing that way.

Indeed, his tactics are working. The more sensational and ridiculous stuff he posts, the more hits he gets. No wonder he keeps going down that road.

Well at least he has some benefits from it. There couple guys on this forum who call Charlie is an idiot and at the same time predict AMD dead few times a year, since I'm member here.

What benefit they get from it, if AMD or NVIDIA are on the way out, we all as consumer are going to end up as looser.

And in a lot of cases a GTX 295 is faster than a 5870 and when not faster, on the same pace (excluding HAWKS).
I'm personally expecting a 280GTX<4870X2 to GF100<5870X2 performance difference.
Ιn any case I dont think its a fare case to compare GTX295(DX10 450€) to 5870(DX11 300€) and GF100 will cost about the same as 5870X2.

Anyway its a difficult thing to judge the single vs multigpu card equasion since people have different perspectives on the matter.

I got a 4870 and don't feel any rush to upgrade to a 5870. So I will wait and see what NVidia brings.

Fotis, I have read that nVidia is also working on a dual fermi/gt300 core card. So, why does it matter if a single gt300 gpu card beats a 5870x2? As long as they price them according to their performance level. There is also a quote from an nvidia rep. at the GTC saying that we will be surprised at how well the gt300/fermi scales. So, we don't really know how far reaching the initial launch lineup will be. Nvidia is late. They are losing business. However, I think fermi will deliver. Heinz, not that I am defending any doom/gloom talk but there has historically been much more concern over ATI's financial well-being let alone AMD's. It is known that tech investors typically prefer Nvidia stock over ATI because of financial performance.

I'm sure Nvidia is working on a dual fermi card but can they deliver on 40nm or will they have to wait the a die shrink?Time to market is very important since rival companies are pushing to their next product so time windows are always short.
Personally I find it hard to decide whether my next buy will be a single or dual gpu card but judging by my 4870x2 experience I didn't need that much power.I guess I'm getting old and I dont play games that much!:(

More rumors, this time from Fudzilla (http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15919/1/) so take them with a grain of salt:

Several Nvidia partners have confirmed that they had to decide to cancel GTX 285 and GTX 275 based products, as availability was simply disastrous.

We still don’t now if this is Nvidia's strategy to keep the market hungry for Fermi or they simply didn't order enough wafers, but availability of GTX260, GTX275 and GTX285 was so bad that many decided to drop these products and wait for Fermi.

The lucky ones can sell Radeon HD 5870 and 5850, as they are selling good, but the 5870 is mainly on allocation and that doesn’t really help a lot.

The GT200 generation is slowly but surely running towards its retirement and if you want one, simply grab it while you still can, or get RV870 or Fermi when it comes out.

EDIT: I just saw a separete thread for this rumor

LMAO!

The sky is not falling, and Nvidia is not going out of biz.

+1

I would have a hard time believing that Nvidia is leaving its core business to focus on other areas such as Tesla products...

What about their recent Physx acquisition and their TWIMTBP program? I think they're heavily invested in the graphics industry and will be around for quite a while.

I'm sure they won't leave high end graphics, but I'm afraid that they will take a break until Fermi is released

In essence, that's what it seems...for now: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3659
