View Full Version : Avatars
Can we increase the allowance size of the avatars. LOL!
We need to see Drunken Shotty Man!
I am making a petition on behalf of PsychoSy. Damn with bandwidth! Get Drunken Shotty Man on our board.

Personally, I don't like animated GIFs as avatars--they can be really distracting when you're reading a long thread.
So I'd say leave it as is.
Animated avatars are not distracting.:p :)

Bandwidth costs, and nothing sucks it down faster than large animated avatars & sig pictures! :(
I'm against both. I like avatars as they make it easier for me to keep people straight, ('cept for "Steal-yer-mates-avatar Days" over at Rage3D where we all swap around avatars for a couple of days just to confuse people...it REALLY confuses people!), and find my own posts so I can know where I left off in a thread....but increasing the size of 'em is just a bad plan.
They're good at what they are, but don't try and make too big a deal out of them or they'll distract from what your words are. :)
(Yeah, says the man who made his avatar in a fit of inspiration at 2am one night and who has come to be recognized by it... )

The main reason I became a regular at nV News is because there are no garish .sig images, and the avatars were customizable but not overt.
<rant>
I just despize boards/threads where .sigs consume more real estate than the message body. There's no friggin excuse to have a .sig longer than your message; it says you care more about your vanity than your ideas.

Say no to large or animated avatars. Any truly creative person can work within low-bandwidth boundaries to make a distracting—uh, i mean attractive—avatar.

64x64 avatar, 10k max is about the biggest I think is reasonable.
No sig images, not ever!
I must agree that sig images are kinda distracting.
They usually take the focus away from your actual text ;)

I too hate sig images they just increase loading time and have no point what so ever:mad:

I actually trimmed it down to 46K but that's still 26K too big. :(
I'm using it as an avatar on Quake*****'s forums though! :p
It does rock though. I remember that from the news but I don't know what the situation was.
