Nvidia really thinks they are the end all bhe all don't they.
This is a plott to tighten the market or hype new stuff coming out.
I thik they are a bad business to begin with and theyere stradegy sucks.
Nvidia is going down the tubes now and they need money.
Ati has very good products now that beat out current nvidia products so whats nvidias problem?
There just like Intel when it comes to stuff so why don't those 2 get along if theere alike?
Anyway the article proves nvidia is scared now and they should be.

I'm just guessing, it could be about this Fudzilla article (http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15919/34/) dated Monday, 12 October 2009
I know Fuad seldom gives any credit about the source for his articles, so I Googled it and wonder if the source isn't this Charlie article (http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/10/06/nvidia-kills-gtx285-gtx275-gtx260-abandons-mid-and-high-end-market/) dated October 6, 2009
If the above is the case this belongs better in the rumors forum.
Anyway if NVIDIA is in big trouble (which I don't think so), I better start cheering up for them fast. :)
Here is another refutation of this stupidity.

I think it would be stupid for any company to not operate scared right now.
As far as I'm concerned, they don't need all that much more than what they had to beat ATI. For what they are offering, (in my book) they can take their own time. They've come out post ATI before and will certainly do it again.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 260 is killed off though. There is just no way they can price it like a 5770 and make much off it.

It seems that most rumors are true!Nvidia is dead in the water for this quarter and seems to be moving away from its former primary target(GPU graphics).:(

Uh, thats not what the article said, part of it was speculation, however, if nvidia was abandoning the high end GPU market, kind of kills Fermi before it even arrives.
To me it sounded like they are still keeping supply of the GTX285 and such until Feb 2010, which by then it would be replaced by Fermi anyway.
And as the article said, nvidia appears to have just decided to not go into a price war with ATI with their current cards(again though, that part is speculation)

Been refuted by Nvidia and several partners though.

But if nVidia doesn't want to enter a price war with ATI, they will keep selling their cards at very uncompetitive prices, so who would want to buy them?. Anyone buying or building a new computer now will get an ATI card.
To me it sounds like they accepted defeat and are retreating until they can release Fermi. And I really hope they can release competitive mid-range Fermi based cards really soon, because ATI is already doing it. nVidia has always released mid-range products some months after high end, but this time they can't allow it.

Thats essentially what it means, rather then lowering the prices of the GTX285 and such and "entering a price war", they are pushing through for a big Fermi release

October 07, 2009 Kyle from [H]ard|OCP (http://www.hardocp.com/news/2009/10/07/nvidia_abandons_market6363636363/) asked NVIDIA about the Charlie article and response from Ken Brown was:

Thanks for asking.
There is no truth to this. Charlie has become a sponsored site of his sole advertiser. It's no coincidence his website looks like an AMD ad.

14 October, 2009 AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3659&p=1) NVIDIA's Bumpy Ride: A Q4 2009 Update
NVIDIA told me two things. One, that they have shared with some OEMs that they will no longer be making GT200b based products. That’s the GTX 260 all the way up to the GTX 285. The EOL (end of life) notices went out recently and they request that the OEMs submit their allocation requests asap otherwise they risk not getting any cards.
The second was that despite the EOL notices, end users should be able to purchase GeForce GTX 260, 275 and 285 cards all the way up through February of next year.
If you look carefully, neither of these statements directly supports or refutes the two articles above. NVIDIA is very clever.
NVIDIA’s explanation to me was that current GPU supplies were decided on months ago, and in light of the economy, the number of chips NVIDIA ordered from TSMC was low. Demand ended up being stronger than expected and thus you can expect supplies to be tight in the remaining months of the year and into 2010.
Board vendors have been telling us that they can’t get allocations from NVIDIA. Some are even wondering whether it makes sense to build more GTX cards for the end of this year.
Looks like Charlie was right.

Maybe it's not that bad as it seems, I mean... we could try to look at it from a different perspective...
NVIDIA pushing delivery of Fermi-based products is a difficult strategic decision taking into account ATI already has almost all of their DX11 products out there, but think about it in a different perspective...
If NVIDIA wipes out their old-gen products from the manufacturing line, they can focus on Fermi-based products, so they will have the entire production line dedicated to Fermi, which ultimately could lead to mass delivery to market.
Of course, this is just a naive way of looking at the situation, as it's difficult times for NVIDIA and going with all meat in the oven at once is quite a dangerous move, given their past experience with the NV30 architecture, but if it goes well... that could compensate for their lack of DX11 products right now...
It's like one of those news site said... the first half of this DX11 round is owned by ATI without any doubt, next turn looks like it could be for NVIDIA, so all in all, doesn't look that bad, except for the fact those waiting for GT300-derivatives will have to wait until H1 2010, not good, but if you're going for the high-end part, you're placed at Q4 2009, and that's just like 45-60 days from now on... so far so good
Just my 2 cents :P

You never know, ATI has won the first round with no competence at all (nVidia doesn't have cards that can compete in price/performance with ATI 5000 series), however when Fermi arrives and nVidia starts releasing high and mid end cards, ATI can counter attack by lowering prices, launching new cards with higher clocks, releasing some kind of "magic driver" (they could be holding back part of the 5000 series performance because they have no need to release it now)... ATI will have several options when Fermi launches, and nVidia doesn't have any today, except leaving the market for some months.
However it's very good for the market that ATI and nVidia swap positions from time to time
Meh their stocks are still going pretty strong so I wouldn't worry about it too much. We can only hope that tegra revives nvidia's interest in the non-professional gpu market.

Any more info about the "45-60 days from now on"
Looks to me you mean what AnandTech (http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15881/1/) said, but there isn't any 45-60 days info in that article:
AMD wins the first half of the DX11 race, the second half will be a bit more challenging.
While NVIDIA won’t publicly admit defeat, AMD clearly won this round. Obviously it makes sense to ramp down the old product in expectation of Fermi, but I don’t see Fermi with any real availability this year. We may see a launch with performance data in 2009, but I’d expect availability in 2010.
Most other sites predict just about the same. Maybe paper launch this year but real availability Q1 2010, the maistream and entry level Fermi first half 2010
Anything official what NVIDIA said?
