This only applies to those of us who live west of the Mississippi.
Sign up here and telemarketers cannot call your house. Imagine a evening with out one single telemarketer to bother you. :)

DoNotCall (http://www.donotcall.gov)

The site is being hammered right now so it is impossible to get on, so be patient. Also double check me in case I posted the wrong URL.

Now if we can just do something about junk mail in the post. ;)

hmm.... I live in the New York area and I'm pretty sure it works for me. I was watching the news last night and that's what they were saying at least. Well, I'll try it out and let you know ;)

Consumers can register their home or cell phone numbers with the free government service by visiting the Web site www.donotcall.gov. Telephone registration using a toll-free number — 1-888-382-1222 — is available in states west of the Mississippi River, including Minnesota and Louisiana. The phone number will operate nationwide by July 7, the FTC said.

This is the kicker.

Consumers will not have to pay to get on the list, as it will be funded by telemarketers.

Now here is the rub. Did the goverment make a deal with the telemarketers and what did this deal consist of. I am afraid my friends we will get it in the ar$$ from another place. ;) :p

Right now i'm working part time monitoring and maintaining the dialer for a small telemarketing company.

What really sucks is i'm going to have to find a way to implement the no-call list into our existing database. I'm sure that there are tools out there i just have never done anything like this.

The upside to this is, if i get all measurements in place and implemented by october i'll probably get a nice bonus.

I read that 1000 people a second are signing up for this. looks like some telemarketers are going to be out of a job.

I've been on the State of Indiana No-Call List for over a 18 months now...so we've had it as a state-thing for a while already. It's absolutely wonderful. Prior to being on the list I'd estimate an average of two calls per weekday and four or more on the weekend. Since being on the list I've had zero, zilch, nada....one of the greatest things ever. Free speech my arse.
