View Full Version : I just got Windows 7 Ultimate.
I have a friend who works at best buy.. and lets just say he has connections. He got me Windows 7 Ultimate.
Apparently Best Buy has had Windows 7 Install Discs for a while, but they aren't allowed to sell them Until the 22nd.
Anyways :)
Time to do some backup for a fresh Install :D

Didn't know best buy would even get ultimate. Supposedly only home premium and professional are supposed to be available to retail stores.
I had to get Ultimate from the microsoft developer thing. Was free too :D They also gave me free breakfast while I was there.

I've had Enterprise edition for a while now. Gotta love working IT and having a MSDN account. ;)
I'm getting really low transfer speeds when Im backing up things to a DVD.
Good times. Let us know whatcha think :)
I am considering throwing Moblin on my 2nd notebook, but may leave it with Ubuntu.
All my other systems are Win7'd :bleh:
Oh and that transfer rate of 0 seems a little low :bleh:
Yea I know...
it stays at zero for a while, then all of sudden it jumps up to where the 4GB songs finished like 10 seconds.

Agreed, student MSDN account FTW
so I installed it, boy did it take a while.
Anyways, I installed it with no problem and something I notices right away that was cool was when I was setting up my setting to connect online, it recognized my Wireless Card, and it was working fine. I tested it, and it connected. With Vista and XP it took me days to get it to work properly.
I'm still installing drivers and other things, but so far so good. Its pretty fast too.
i bought my copy from the (lee)bay :D
Wow this thing is SUPER fast!!!
When I install something it takes 1/4 of the time it took me in Vista.
When I start it up, it loads like a speed demon. Less than half the time it took to start up in Vista.
It's pretty sweet.

How long did it take you?
It typically takes about 40 minutes for me to be up and running :D

If you mean install it, it took me about an hour, give or take.

just an FYI to students who are reading this... apparently you can get it for $30 if you're a student...
Enjoy your new OS though... it's fun. I've been on it for a while (since RC in may) and just recently went to build 7600 (RTM) as of the first of September... it's a pleasure to work with in its final form .... particularly surprising and enjoyable on my netbook (posting from it now)

I'm guessing it's your time of the month... I understand.
Is there any reason why people should buy Ultimate this time around? It was a rip off with Vista.

For the home user, not really. But Pro offers a lot of features over Home Premium.

Professional offers a lot of good options over Home Premium, including HomeGroups, XP Virtualization, and others.
