OK I am confused.

Here I am, proud owner of a Ti4600, and my wife wants one in her PC to replace her Voodoo5. The V5 just can't hack it any more. My daughter has a 9700pro but my wife has decided on the Ti4600 because it runs everything with no problems. The 9700pro may run things a tad faster (mostly) but has issues with a number of games she runs.

So I look on the web to buy another 4600 but I can't find any. I can see plenty of FX's (don't want one), plenty of Ti4200s, even some Ti4400s. But no 4600s.

Now one card that is new to me is available, thats called the Ti4800. Now just what is this? Is the 4600 now renamed 4800?

Help me, I am confused.

Ti4800 is a 4600 with AGP8X support (not required, just support for it). Ti4800SE is a 4200 with 8x support.

Or maybe that's backwards... but the 4800 should be it.

Thank you for your prompt reply Baron.

You saved me - I did not realise that there was such a difference between the Ti4800 and the Ti4800SE. You saved me a stupid purchase....

The closest I've seen to 4600 speeds is something like this;

http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk/productinfo.php?codeid=812659

only 10Mhz off the core speed, and 30 Mhz off the memory speed of the 4600. You could prolly overclock it to the same as a 4600.

If you're going for the ti4600, here is a good supply from a top-notch company.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?catalog=48&DEPA=1&submit=property&mfrcode=0&propertycode=&propertycodevalue=3109,3668

I can vouch for the Chaintech model. My friend has one, and it's a terrific card. For $198 it does seem like a steal if that's the direction you're going.

I have the TI4600 and never had no problems with it,But I upgraded to a R9800Pro and have'nt no problems with it with any of the games I have run,But if you are buying a new card I would go with one that has DX9 support for future game support weather it is Nvidia or Ati.I would think the FX 5900 128mb will come down in price soon,but the TI4800 should run them fine just with lower IQ.
