GTX275 and GTS250 on one PCB

While we don't have a final name for the card, it turns out that EVGA created a dual GPU card by combining GeForce GTS 250 with GeForce GTX 275. That's right, a dedicated PhysX GPU in the form of trusty G92 [debuted as 8800, rebranded as 9800, GTS 250 and GTX 260M/280M] and GT206/GT200b GPU for graphics.

I like to have my PhysX card in a separate slot, just in case I want to replace either the video card or the PhysX addon. But this solution would be cool for people with small cases (HTPCs) and only one PCI-Express slot

Makes me feel a bit confused... can't you actually assign one of the physical cores in a 2x GPU card to PhysX and leave the other for rendering?

I believe both chips are EOL, so this card is not going to be on the market for to long.

I don't think the card can compete against HD 5870 and might not cost much less.

It's more than obvious this card won't compete with the Radeon HD 5870, but... so what? It's not the real point about the launch but having a setup where you use the full core count for rendering while you can use 128 cores for dedicated physics processing, so far so good.

It's the kind of product for those wanting to raise a bit their current performance with a GTX 275 and not hinder its performance while doing physics at the same time... from that perspective, it's an honest product and it doesn't need to pose any kind of competition.

Could be nice for a small LAN Party box... But I don't think a dedicated PhysX card is necessary.

Sounds pretty stupid to me. Basically it means the other card is only useful for physx, whereas if you spend a few bucks more you could get 2 of the same card and have your choice of sli for faster framerates or physx when you want it.

Edit: I donno if you noticed, but the article itself takes several digs at the ridiculousness of it.

I don't think its a bad idea really since most motherboards only have one x16 slot as it is. I'd use a second card for physx if I could, but I don't have an extra slot.

If its buggy or overpriced though, its a definite fail.

I also didn't think it was bad idea. I was more thinking it was about clearing the inventory before Fermi arrives and making some money on new product before that.

To my surprise when looking at the EVGA site (http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.asp?family=GeForce+200+Series+Family) they have not any GTX 275, (GTX 285, GTX 260) for sale, not much inventory there. Therefore I think the new card will have very limited run.

The more I think about it, the less I understand. This card is clearly aimed at enthusiast users (average Joe doesn't need a dedicated PhysX card). Would any enthusiast user be interested in this card when Fermi is supposed to ship in just a couple of months, rendering this dual-card useless?. Some months ago this card could have been quite good, but not now, I just can't see it

less flexible then SLI or GX2 boards if you canīt run it as "SLI" for non-PhysX games.
In my case, iīd have that extra GPU sitting there idle most of the time, canīt recall last time I played a game with PhysX GPU support.

Im seeing 5 different GTX 275 models listed there, 3 260 and 8 models based on GTX 285.
What do you mean they dont have them for sale?

EDIT: Ah, the "In stock" check box, missed that one.

This product makes no sense at all seems like a waste of a GPU to me.
I can go on about why not but since everyone here in pretty informed I wont elaborate.

Seems like they want to get rid of inventory if you ask me.

Mmm, maybe if you pair it with a standalone GTX 275 you could have both SLI and dedicated PhysX in two cards
