Retail - Full vs Upgrade

Apologizes if this has been asked and answered before:

Would the full retail version of Windows 7 (specifically Ultimate) allow me to do an upgrade install on my current Vista (Ultimate) system?

I want to get the full version because I'll know I'll be doing a clean install at some point (probably with new hardware), but I don't feel taking the time do a full, clean install now.

yes, and upgrades work very well. personally done an upgrade on few machines (about 15).

going from nt 6.0 to nt 6.1 it rather a small incremental upgrade and everything works.

just before upgrade uninstall any antivirus programs you have
