View Full Version : nVidia OpenGL driver in 191.00+ driver sets break older games

I've been going through my collection of games to see how they run in Windows 7. I had the 191.56 drivers installed, but noticed most of my older games based on the Quake 1, 2, and 3 engines would not start. They crash right when they start up. I thought it was Windows 7, but it turns out it's the OpenGL driver in these set of drivers. I tried to get the OpenGL driver out of the 190.64 set and run the games with that, but the nVidia drivers do not allow mixing of dll files. I have the 190.64 drivers and all of these games run fine now. Hope nVidia fixes this.

Download nHancer

and go into the game-profile of the game, which is not running and adjust "compatibility/Opengl/driver extension limit" to "11a8".

Thanks! That worked perfectly for these games!

Call of Duty and United Offensive don't launch on 191s.

They do with the fix mentioned above. I just tried it out with CoD.

CoD is OpenGL? Weird.

Ok then... I reverted to 186 anyway though :)

CoD 1 uses a modified Quake 3 engine.

191.07, quake 2 and glquake dosen't work even with extension limit" to "11a8".

It does work with the extension limit. I'm using 191.56. These drivers contain the 191.00 OpenGL driver. The 191.07 drivers also contain the 191.00 OpenGL driver. Proof that it works (sorry for the large size):

Could you take a screenshot with OpenGL32.dll driver details on your system, please?

It doesn't matter what the OpenGL32.dll driver is because these games use the nvoglv32.dll in the SysWOW64 Windows directory (Win 7 x64).

I have 191.07 and nvoglv32.dll ver 8.16.11.9107 installed. Nhancer doesn't help as well as compatiblity mode with XP. Turning on Visual style either running as administrator also. :/

I just checked my nvoglv32.dll and it does indeed say it's 191.56, so the drivers versions are different. I had thought they were 191.00. Can you try installing the 191.56 drivers and using the extension limit?

Yes I know. But with extension limit Quake 2 looks odd. Quake 2 XP hangs when I open video options. :/
