I'm looking at pulling out my XFX 8800GTS 640mb Xtreme edition card, and upgrading. I'm currently researching into the 250/260 chipset, and so far it looks like for the little extra money the 260 would be more worth going for? Anyway, i've looked around, and saw them at around the £130 mark. Apart from one i particularly like the look of, the EVGA GTX 260 SSC 896MB edition, which seems seriously fast - 675mhz clock, 2304mhz mem, 216 cores. The best I found it at is £170. Would anyone recommend i go for that for the money? Or something else?
TIA

Its kindda hard to say now, because the next gen of nvidia cards is coming up fast.
I went from a BFG 8800GTS 640 --> GTX 275 and the difference is a little more than noticeable.
Value wise, if i remember correctly, the ATi 4890 and GTX 260 216 were the best.
You could hang on to your card and use it for physx calculations if you have a decent enough power supply + motherboard with another pci slot, or sell it. I managed to sell mine on craigslist for a decent price.
EDIT: If you have a store-bought system, you may have to replace the power supply as most new mid-range graphics card need 400ish-500ish power, and store bought computers usually come with low quality 300ish.

Yes, i bought a 650w supply for it, thats the first thing i did (with future in mind).
Well im kinda down to two options -
EVGA 260 super-superclock - 675 clock, 216sp, 2300 mem/896mb, or
ASUS 275 OC - 633 clock, 240sp, 2300 mem/896mb
both are a cost of around 170gbp, which would you say would be better? And would it be noticeable much?

If they are generally around the same price, I would definitely go for the 275, but the 260 is no slouch either. Depending on the resolution, you would probably be able to enable AA/AF in most recent type games, and just to a higher degree with the 275.
You can search for reviews online, and compare the two. I just really like the headroom that I get with my 275 onna 22inch monitor.

Just seen the ATI 4890, according to gaming charts it outperforms even the gtx 285, and is only £150. Whats that all about then? Is it not really that clear cut? Not really sure about ATI myself.

i had dual 8800GTS before i got this GTX260. and i can say from experience the GTX260 is almost as fast. just thought i would give you something to compare to. but if the 275 is only a few bucks more go for that and you'll definately see double the performance of your current card.

Yes i'm noticing that in majority of cases now. Tell me tho, when does the super saver delivery arrive for you normally? I'm hearing on other forums some people getting it next day, and some right on the 5th day.

I'm in the same boat with SLI 8800 GTS. I say if you've waited this long might as well wait for GT300. Though I've been really impatient about how it has been delayed so long. The 275 is better but I don't know if the smallish performance improvement is worth it considering you've waited all this time.
My mistake I thought you had SLI for some reason. You definitely will get a nice performance increase in that case.

If you have a "need" to upgrade, those 275's are the way to go for that price. If you don't, wait a few more months and, over that course of time, sock away a few more of those British pounds.

usually about 5 days sometimes sooner
eBuyer screwed me over on an 8800gt pre-order so I still hate them though.
