They perform pretty much the same so go with something that you would consider the better buy in brand/Price.

What he said, with the caveat that last I looked the 9600 Pro was a bit cheaper than the 5600 Ultra. (A REAL ultra that is. ;) )

(But there is a really good deal going on online for a $138 5600 Ultra that was posted earlier here that I wouldn't sneeze at! )

The FX 5600 Ultra and 9600 PRO get compared together in this review:

http://www.hexus.net/review.php?review=583

Very good showing by the FX 5600 Ultra here.

I found a lot of that review to be questionable, I don't know how much stock I'd put in it. (As I told you when you were pushing it over here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14086). :p )

LOL. Can you explain in a techical fashion why the FX 5900 128MB would not hold up against a 9800 PRO? I don't see how anyone can discount such a review considering that there have been very few FX 5900 128MB reviews (1 or 2 maybe?), and considering that each reviewer uses different demos to benchmark. I wonder what you would have said if the 9800 PRO demolished the FX 5900 :D

Also depends on platforms too, i have noticed the Radeon's perform better on AMD platforms then Intel while it being the other way round. ATi + AMD pure performance, nVIDIA + Intel pure MegaHertz.

I've actually read 4-5 5900 reviews so far I think and I have never seen the 5900 beat the 9800 at 1024x768 at 4xaa 8xaf before, that's all I meant and also that reviewer ended up saying that the 5900 & 9800 were EQUAL performers and that since both retailed for the same price it's a toss-up.

But they ain't the same price in real-life, the 9800 Pro can be gotten for less and is easy to find.

What's your next one Jimmy, I missed you when you were gone. (I remember ya now. :) )

The FX5900 is cheaper for me then a Radeon 9800Pro. Well the MSI card is anyway :D

Here is an example in the Firingsquad review where the FX 5900 128MB version is ahead of the Radeon 9800 PRO at all resolutions above 800x600x32 with 4xAA and 8xAF:

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/msi_geforce_fx5900-td128_review/page13.asp

Also note that this was Firingsquad's first set of custom demos, and recently after this review they made their custom demos more intensive, giving the FX 5900 more of an advantage apparently.

But they ain't the same price in real-life, the 9800 Pro can be gotten for less and is easy to find.

Naturally, because the FX 5900 practically just came out. But it does appear that they are available now.

DetFX v44.65 which will get WHQL and full support from all the Hardware sites for none "Cheating".

hmmm, btw can anyone compare the new ultra with two sets of drivers the 44.03 and the 44.65?

the bad thing about the PCPOP review is the early silicon of FX5600U they got ( resulting in bad OC) today's module should do 500/910 ( in general)... (hexus's review)
