Multiple sources now claim that Nvidia has promised to ship Fermi in January 2010. We are talking about GF100 Fermi, the GPU that is expected to defeat ATIs Radeon HD 5000-series offerings. To make matters more clear, January is the time when you can hope to buy a high-end Geforce desktop graphics card based on Fermi.

Nvidia Fermi-based cards in the enthusiast market have been pushed from a late November launch to a January launch mainly due the fact that the A2 silicon chip revision was not good enough for volume production, so A3 is about to ship to partners soon. With this in mind and if all goes well, Geforce graphics cards based on Fermi architecture are expected to ship in January.

We have also heard that the launch won't take place at CES 2010, which starts on January 7th and ends of January 10th. Instead, Nvidia might launch it later at some point, but nevertheless still sometime during the month.

[Rumour] Nvidia Fermi release

A contrasting set of rumours regarding Nvidia's Fermi have hit the web following a meeting involving Nvidia's top men in Hong Kong. First up is a Fudzilla report which claims a late January release for Fermi based Geforce products.

On the other hand, HardOCP is speculating an April 2010 release.

So, which of these rumours are more accurate? As far as Fermi is concerned, the only logical thing to do is to have no expectations. A new problem or a new delay seems to pop up and rumoured as time flies by.

Having said that, HardOCP's Kyle has been spot on with his reports on Fermi's delays. Fudzilla, on the other hand, were insisting on a November/December launch even earlier this month - something that has been proved wrong. Interestingly, a codename "Gemini" is thrown around, which seems to refer to a dual-GPU version of Fermi.

In the end, with Fermi, all we can say is, it will arrive when it will arrive. The best thing us consumers can do is to have no expectations and hope for the best. If you are expecting a HD 5800 killer to be in stores in widespread quantities in January (as you may have in December, in the past), you are more likely to be disappointed. Something we can look forward to from Nvidia in the recent future is more information about Fermi's much-touted gaming capabilities.

Unfortunately, the ATI's Radeon HD 5800 series isn't without its share of problems. Availability has remained poor even two months after release. Though, AMD claim widespread availability is due for mid December, we will have to wait and see.

Does it mean when it's done?

I say next summer at the soonest. Which I why I upgraded my aged 285 GTX with an shiny new, much faster HD5870. Very happy with the upgrade. The new card smokes my 285 and runs cooler even though they were both water cooled.

If NVIDIA can promise me a Janurary 2010 release, i will hold back my HD5850 purchase and wait until fermi comes out. In the mean time i shall stick with my old buddy the 7900GT.

Why do you need NVIDIA to promise anything, isn't Fuad promise good enough?

On the other hand Fuad also did promise Fermi for November 17, 2009, than he changed it to end of November or early December, than he changed it to before than end of the year. Now he is promising January, I wonder what is he going to be promising in January.

I also wonder which NVIDIA shill is feeding him the info or is he just making up all the FUD by himself. Basically the continuous message is all about, don't buy the ATI card now the Fermi is just around the corner.

All I know is that I have an extra paycheck in dec., so whom ever has one available - 5970 or firmi, I don't care anymore.
