It seems like the mod scene for Left 4 Dead is almost ignored... people mostly play the official campaigns and when an awesome new mod campaign comes out there is very little discussion or fanfare.

Discuss here why you don't care, or if you do tell us about your favorite mods and maps and why they are so good.

Much of the community is waiting for the L4D2 authoring tools. 2 really did take a good deal of wind out of L4D1's sails by releasing so quickly, but...

Dead Before Dawn - some bugs, but still worth the playthrough
Dismember The Alamo - Awesome survival map
Suicide Blitz - One of the best coops I've played
Echo - Newly released coop, looks very promising from the little I've played
Silent Hill - Love it
Silent Fear - in the 'different' cat with Silent Hill, well done
Resident Evil_rpd - Nice!

There's much more, but the new "Reverse" campaigns are fantastic as well. So far No Mercy and blood Harvest are out. Playing these from back to front adds some great twists.

I get all mine from
http://www.l4dmods.com/

http://www.l4dmaps.com/files.php?cat=2

and Filefront has great speed on their servers for the maps they carry.

EDIT:

Also look for:

Night Terror
Death_Aboard v7
Heaven can Wait

Too many more to list

Dead City is great, I really liked that map. Dead Aboard was good as well, I thought.

I think its the way the game is made to work around the lobby system. You really can't build a community like with most games and ds.

I'm pretty much over L4D, I was over it before the decent campaigns came out. And before the 2 other versus maps were finally out. It would have been really good if the SDK came out early, maybe I'd still be playing.

I just played the newest release of "City 17" which is basically Half-Life 2 Episode 1 as a Left 4 Dead campaign. I have to say it was amazingly well suited for Left 4 Dead and I enjoyed it very much, I hope to play it again in coop some night here soon.

I've got a L4D2 add-on campaign that I downloaded. I can't remember the name ATM, but I'll post it when I get back to the game. I'd like to have some of y'all download it and try it out with me. :)

I know what you mean, I'm surprised most people only play official maps. I've played these ones and found them to be very good:

Escape from Toronto
Dead City
Dead before Dawn
Vienna Calling

But my favorite of all, Night Terror.

Played City 17 tonight with Magus and I was doing insanely crappy. He'll probably say some lame joke about me never being good but I usually do a hell of a lot better than I did tonight.

Never play when you're not in the mood to, it's a waste of time.

She would be a damn good player if she healed... she coveres everyone from behind very well.

I highly suggest giving the L4D1 maps in L4D2 a whirl using the versions here: http://nekoarcnetwork.com/l4donl4d2/index.html. There are straight ports and modified versions which add certain things, No Mercy gets rain storms and Dead Harvest is in the bright daytime for instance.

I played No Mercy and Blood Harvest modified versions today and they play great. The Spitter especially adds a lot of new challenges to the original game's maps. There are some quirks, these are betas, and Dead Air is not available modified yet, but I still say check it out.

EDIT: I'm also downloading Dead On Time 2 as I post this edit. A review said it was pretty big and takes time to explore.

Just played Crash Course in Left 4 Dead 2 and even though that one is really not finished it is still a great time. The Left 4 Dead 2 enhancements add a lot to these older campaigns, which tells me it is not the mechanics of Left 4 Dead 1 I prefer, but the mood and maps.
