Just played it, the content is exactly the same. This one is official and suppose to be 'bugfree'.

Yeah it doesn't work to just ride the gas pedal... you actually need to tap the gas a bit on the turns.

Oh yes its a lot harder to drive now. Tried the 360 version for a minute, put the controller down after i had difficulty steering the car. :headexplode:

But hey, i think its great. Ive never been a fan of arcade racing games anyway.

Benchmark results anyone ?

1920x1200 all settings maxed Vsync off with 195.56 WHQL's

Minimum 54fps
Average 69fps

LordJuanlo

1920x1200, 4xAA, DX11, everything ultra and maxed

Min: 35.1 fps
Avg: 54.2 fps

Game looks gorgeous btw, DX11 water ripples look very real but you don't have much time to look at them at those speeds, but if you happen to be just behind a car that runs over water is very nice to see.

In some ways the first DiRT looks better.

No f*cking surprise there then. Looks like I'm being forced into buying a X360 controller.

A controller is finally accepted as the standard for PC, something most people have wanted for decades, and some people still complain.

Typical.

I for one couldn't be happier that the PC finally has a standard controller. It's finally brought sports games and fighters back to the console, something that hasn't happened since the early 90's.

Pretty substantial, I'd say.

Eh, what are you talking about? Gamepads and joysticks have always been supported in PC games. It's only recently with the console ports that they are not supported properly, except of course for 1 single gamepad, the Xbox360 controller. If you happen to like a different gamepad, one is screwed.

I never said we didn't have them before, I said we never had a standard. Now we do, every game instantly recognizes it and changes the UI and controls when it sees it is connected and we get normal in-game prompts with no setup. This is infinitely better than things used to be.

It also has made things infinitely worse for anything but a 360 controller.

Things are pretty bad right now for 3DFX as well.

Heh, yeah. The 360 controller is significantly better than any other gamepad I've used over the past 10 years and my brother has bought some pretty expensive controllers. He had a wireless Thrustmaster controller with dual analog triggers imported in from the UK because they wouldn't sell them over here. It was a nice controller (not for $70+shipping) but something inside the left analog trigger broke off the first time he used it which made it extremely touchy.

Our 360 controllers have seen far more use and have absolutely no problems. They're incredibly durable and they just work. The only problem I've seen with them is the battery charging cable needs to be plugged in a few times to get it to charge. This is a common problem and its annoying but its not a big deal.

Other than that, flight sticks and steering wheels still have their place and I understand how the 360 standard has probably set that back a bit, but the selection and usefulness of those peripherals tanked long before the 360 was released. I remember when there were dozens of different wheels and sticks available at any store that sold PC games in the 90s but after 2000 you'd be lucky to see more than one of each. Now you won't find any and online stores rarely sell more than 2 or 3 of each.

It sucks, but I guess its just a matter of convenience. The average game isn't complex enough or realistic enough to benefit from realistic controllers so no one bothers spending all that money to have bulky peripherals laying around. Sims just aren't as popular as they used to be, so there isn't much market for anything other than a good reliable gamepad.

Just played this demo.

The performance is absolutely flawless (60+ fps constant at high settings, 1920x1200, 4xMSAA) but the graphics didn't really wow me. It doesn't look any better than the last one to me.

The gameplay is pretty standard too. After the two races in the demo I was pretty much already bored with it. Racing games don't get any more basic than this. The controls and physics are also a bit "floaty". The cars have ridiculous amounts of traction on dirt yet they still tend to glide sideways indefinitely if you go a little too fast into a turn.

Doesn't seem bad, but I'm not a real big racer myself and this one doesn't seem to have any interesting features. Maybe they left it out of the demo, but can you even upgrade and fine tune your vehicles? I couldn't find anything other than changing the liveries and accessories.
