I'm looking for a new SATA DVD Drive. I'm a quiet PC type of guy so what drive do you suggest for the lowest noise? I bought two Samsung DVDs for my sister-in-laws system and they're fairly quiet but not nearly as quiet as my old IDE NEC drive. But I want to upgrade to SATA drives and put two of them in. So any info would help me out. Thanks!

Interesting... 56 Views but no comments. Guess I'll just buy the Samsung DVD.

I generally go for Pioneer's, but TBH I've never noticed differences in noise levels. I find it's out of balance disks that cause the noise, and an out of balance disk is out of balance in any drive. I suppose some drives will be better at absorbing the vibration, but I don't remember ever seeing any specs in this respect.

if you want quiet then don't buy a new drive, go look for some old 12x drive.

these newer 20x-24x drive have higher RPM so generally are a bit more noisy then older hardware.

I generally go for Pioneer's,.

don't buy the 118/218 models, they are cheap Lite-on clones.

Good advice. I'll take a look around. But I'm not sure I'll see any SATA drives, and I kind of want to go with SATA because of the smaller cables.

The best thing for you to do is to find a case with a door on the front if you have noise issues with optical drives.

Thanks... But yeah, too pricey for me. The Nero speed thing might be the deal. I may pop for Nero 9 since I just bought Win7 Pro and my old Nero isn't up to Win7.

Cool... I forgot about that. I may get Nero 9 since I just bought Win7, so that may be the deal for me.
