I know that it's somewhere in the 6xxx series for Nvidia. Can anybody make a guess?

According to Team Xbox (http://hardware.teamxbox.com/articles/xbox/1144/The-Xbox-360-System-Specifications/p1), the specs are as follows:

* 500 MHz
* 10 MB embedded DRAM
* 48-way parallel floating-point dynamically-scheduled shader pipelines
* Unified shader architecture

This is more comparable to a custom ATI card than to an nVidia card...

perfect, do you know which one? I thought someone said it was similar to a R500 but I know nothing about ATI...

Unfortunately, I do not. I read the specs from that site...they may have more info for you there...

It's a hybrid chip between the r500 and r600. It's specifically designed for the rrod_box so there's no desktop equivalent.

I remember the performance being compared to something in the Geforce 7800 range, but I really don't know for sure.

And still some games like gta IV works more fluent (even though fps is lower games seems more fluent somehow)

Are you planning on making an Xbox 360 emulator or what? :zombie:

I pretty much attributed the xbox's 3d power to that of the nvidia 8600. It actually took the 8800 a long time to match the performance because of game and driver optimisation for it. The 360's video chip is not dx10, but benefited from the unified shader feature first introduced in dx10 video cards.

/useless trivia; This is not something found in the ps3, however it may not matter since sony is famous for rigging its chips up to occasionaly produce some vodoo magic (Xenosaga 3 featured a water effect very close to shadered water, dispite not supporting traditional shaders). So the PS3 is probably able to apply effects without using traditional pipelines.

No I'm not trying to build one, I'm just trying to show some of my friends that xbox 360's have nothing on PC's in the graphics department. I've never been blown away by the graphics on an xbox 360 by any means. And some of my friends say that their xbox's look amazing or that it looks as good or better than a PC. Which is a load of crap. It's a console for a reason...

The gpu for the 360 was designed with help from MS, so much that it does hardware tessilation that is now being included in dx11.

Ati supported tesselation as far back as the 2900.

Very true, MS changed a bunch of stuff.
Here is a nice power point on the 360 gpu

yes, it is a huge link. Says nothing about MS designing anything.
