Which one Would you choose? ... A mates computer has just died on him and hes doing alittle upgrade ... Of the two Which is the best bang for buck(or pound lol)?

I'd go with the Athlon. While the clock speed is slower than the Phenom, it has twice the cores and should handle multiple workload better. Also the board included with the Athlon has onboard graphics, which when doing little upgrades is a nice stopgap solution.

Depends on what he's going to do with it primarily. Either would be good for most applications.

If he's not interested in tweaking, overclocking or general tinkering, I'd say go with the Phenom. Two cores will still do more than most people want or need and the higher clock speeds will benefit him right now without the need for any tweaking.

Before i posted this i said to him i would personally go for the quad core if i was him ... Simply becasue he is the kind of guy that only upgrades when something breaks so he could have it for a long long time lol, I said the quad core is more future proof.
