Some might wonder how to change CD-Key for GfW LIVE games.

Why you might need to do that?

For example you bought a retail game and at later date you bought Steam version. You should change the key, so you can could sell the retail version.

Step 1, go to C:\Users\{{Userna****}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLi ve\Titles

then you have to find the correct folder that matches your game

for example: 5454083B = GTA4

you have to delete that folder, next time you launch the game it will ask you for your new key.

Thanks Nekrosoft.

Bought Batman off Steam last month when it was half price at 15 and still haven't bothered to un-install my old retail copy.

This should make the process a lot easier. Merry Christmas!

Does this affect savegames by any chance?

It would, save games are tied to the account for most GFWL games. Not Fallout 3 though, and maybe some others, but for most.

Yeah the account, not the key. But is it possible to assign a second key to an account?

with few games that i switched keys, there was no problem assigning a new key, and buyer of the old retail game had no problem with the key.

also save game worked right away

could those that are changing their CD-key also list the folder name of the game.

for example: 5454083B = GTA4

Not entirely sure how you've worked out that GTA = 5454083B but the only GFWL game I have installed at the moment is Batman and the folder for that is:

534307ff = Batman AA

i have few games installed that use live, so i simply deleted a folder at a time, and launch the game, if GTA4 did not ask me for new key then it was the wrong folder, so close game, undo delete, and delete the next folder, until i found the right one
