Integrated graphics, only dual channel DDR3 memory controller, 4 cores...what's up? Why is Intel regressing?
Am I missing something?

that's 4 cores for the mainstream version. which is a step up, because right now main their mainstream chips are dual core.
it's actually good, 4 cores finally become mainstream so we'll see more software support better multi-threading. they can put two of them in a package for an 8 core chip, like they did with the core 2 quads :drooling:

Wait, there's going to be a separate architecture for the high end?

It's always like that. There is one codename for the architecture but the actual CPUs for the different sockets are in fact quite different and also have separate codenames.

Wait, what is the current situation now? Could you explain Intel's current processor lineup?
They're still in transition now. But Core 2 Duo is still mainstream with Core i5/8xx i7 taking over the Core 2 Quad. i7 9xx is high end. Core 2 won't be phased out until the i5 6xx and i3 series takes off into full production.
Only problem is that LGA 1156 isn't around for long so anyone in the know would probably want to avoid it and wait out for LGA 1156B.

1156B? I was under the impression that they were going to merger everything to 1366.

Intel seems to be changing their sockets more frequently now. maybe so they can make more money selling motherboards :(
after 1156B there's 1156C coming, Intel doesn't want you to use the same board for more than 12 months

Exactly the reason I don't..or will ever....buy Intel cpu's or mobo's. What a ripoff people. At least AMD allows you to use the same socket for 2-3 generations of cpu's. Until Intel changes this money hungry, consumer ripoff scheme, I personally will not purchase, nor will I endorse, thier products. (As if anyone cares.......)
BTW, if someone else would make an OS to legitimatly compete with microsoft, I'd do the same to microsoft......What a money hungry, consumer ripoff corp they are.......
Ok I'm done....sorry for venting here guys...but this just hit a nerve.

I'm using the same AMD board that started with a +5000 and I "could" use a PII 940 BE in this same board....3 generations....

As far as the code names within the Nehalem architecture go, it looks like this:
Desktop products:
1366 Quads: Bloomfield.
1366 Six Core: Gulftown.
1156 Quads: Lynnfield.
32nm Dual: Clarkdale.
Mobile Products:
32nm Dual: Arrandale.
45nm Quad: Clarksfield.
Plus there are quite a few workstation/server CPUs as well. Those are all "Nehalem" products but for different market segments. Same goes for Sandy Bridge.

Trust me, AVX is going to rock :D

+1
This 1156B, 1156C crap is not only a royal ripoff, it's confusing too.

Well, at least going off of Slawter's post- 1366 will still have some new releases. That's good to hear.
After 1366 however, if Intel tries forcing consumer to change sockets as it looks like they will- I'll be going back to AMD.

Same here.
It will be sad if Intel loses me after a single generation. I finally decided to give them a chance when the Core 2s came out...and now they're already driving me back to AMD.

Sandy Bridge is absolutely horriby, piece of **** solution. It will only add transistor count, and heat with no value. That **** we don't need. We got GPU to handle games etc. I am interested in 6 core solution for 1366 socket with no garbage graphic chip in it. I think 6 core will be another q6600 for a very long time.

Same here. If they pull any **** with 6 Core and new socket, going to switch to AMD immediately.

AVX? :o
See here:

Those instruction set extensions are getting out of control since MMX. I might be wrong this time but it does sound boring.

The best Intel could do to make really great processors in their current state is... forget about Hyperthreading, AVX or anything sounding fancy, improve their thermals (130W for every Bloomfield-based model, regardless of speed or functionality? Hah! Tell me another joke, please...), no more tri-crap memory configuration (computer engineering loves powers of 2) and fire their marketing guys, then it'll be fine.
(but... to be absolutely fair, same goes for AMD... stop rejuicing the same old core on 45nm, move beyond, raise the clocks, a bit more of cache, and stop playing the underdog... that's just silly and lame).
AVX is going to suck chunks, simply because it is graphics and intel.
Its a mainstream cpu who cares..
I for one am going for 8core version without integrated gpu, plus the fact it will have 256 bit/cycle Ring bus bandwidth VS. current 128bit tells allot, so yea its gonna destroy current quads

There's going to be an 8 core without integrated video??
