Larrabee is an attempt to turn a CPU into a GPU.
What if Nvidia did the opposite?

See "Fermi could run an OS"
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15940/1/

But for real, ie take 4-8 SM's and beef them up with a large cache, smart prefetch , stack and other full CPU features.

How would it perform running a OS like linux vs an AMD or Intel CPU?

Merge this with a set of normal SM's 16+ to form an CPU+GPU combo.

The normal SM's would run the normal Fermi instruction set. The 4-8 CPU SM's an enhanced one.

nvidia will get pwned if they try to go up against intel in the cpu market.

It's not x86, so no.

Doesnt really work that way, by the time you add enough stuff to make it function truly CPU-like you wouldn't really have enough space to have any major advantage over a CPU.

By the time someone adds all the crap that intel does to their cpus, that would be the case, but who really needs 75 different versions of sse?
