Whats the cheapest graphics card that will do that?

You just need a decent GPU. Check out the GT 240. (assuming the machine is PCIe)

Try playing it in xbmc. It'll probably do it just fine in software alone. Some players, e.g. WMP, VLC, and a few others will play like crap even on much faster computers. But players like XBMC or MPC-HC will happily play on almost any circa 2002ish or later CPU.

If it does run a little choppy, then try pretty much any 8k series nvidia card, even the el cheapo ones.

Which 2.8 is it? Does it have HT? 533? 800? ... 400?

And what sort of slot is there for vidcard expansion?

i doubt 1080p will be possible with that system without a decent video card... i have a laptop with a 2.8ghz P4 (non HT) with some intel extreme gfx crap and 720p is fine but anything more wont work

I believe the 2.8 P4 is single core with AGP. If so a single core will struggle.

The board has PCI-E so it must be a 775 so I'm guessing its a 2.8ghz 520, It does have HT so its an 800fsb.

I'll get him to run sandra or something when I can contact him to get some more details.
