OK.

I have read the other posts in here on the TI 4600.

Here is my situation:

I just won a new FX 5600 in a contest. I currently am running a Ti4600 in my main rig and a GeForce 3 in my secondary rig.

I only have an AGP 4x mobo.

Should I not even bother installing the new 5600 in my main rig? I have not seen any conclusive benchies to this effect or the other way either for that matter.

I like to run my games at 1024x768 with AA and AF turned on - would like to shoot for higher IQ wherever possible but do not always like the higher resolution screens.

I mainly play Battlefield 1942, Warcraft III (+Expansion), Neverwinter Nights Undrentide, and some others.

Thoughts?

Install it and find out, it's going to be slower that the Ti4600 in raw speed but it'll give you higher IQ (AA\AF) at higher resolutions without suffering the speed drop the GF4 would.

You should just be able to swap over without reinstalling the drivers anyway.

i would suggest to try it also... and remember that it also has dx9 support... which isnt much use now... unless you wanna run some 3dmark03..hehe

actually i believe that star wars galaxies uses some dx9 effects for the water...

I think people are too hard on the 5600 cards. You can put it in first hand and see what its like :)

Congrats on winning the GFFX 5600

Congrats on the card, and yeah, i think the best thing you can do is install the new card (you shoudlnt have to switch drivers) and then run your games useing fraps, and see what looks better to you!

I won from www.hardfind.com

Was great. I just registered to their forums and made one post! Easy as that! Was their first ever give away, too.

Should have the card early next week!:D

OK - Good and Bad news.

It beats my 4600 in every benchmark I have when using AA & AF at almost any level.

Bad news - it FEELS slower and is sometimes choppy when playing some games like Battlefield 1942, etc.

I did the autodetect overclock and got quite a jump (about 45 core and the same in memory).

Going to upgrade the cooling and OC it to 5600 Ultra speeds, then I think I will use it instead of the trusty old 4600 - into the second pc for that great card.

Will update again once I upgrade cooling to see new overclock results and performance, etc.

with fsaa, due to color compression, it does eat a ti4600, but without fsaa, even a ti4200 eats the fx5600 cause the core is only 4x1 in pixel pipelines :( still I paid $129 for my 256mb, if that one is too slow ill resell it. My plan is either keep it for doom3 and HL2 or sell it back and get a faster ti4200 which I did

Hrmmm...
I suggest you against selling 4600.
Incoming games are more stressful than the current ones.
My guess is, you won't be able to use AA/AF on those games even with 5600.
Yes, you can use DX9 features, but its DX9 performance will be horrible.

Just speculations. But if i were you, i'll keep 4600 intact till those games arrive and you can check on them.
