View Full Version : Detonator 44.x/FX5900 Ultra Games Issues

Hi,

I've been trying out my games with the FX5900 Ultra card and I've hit a couple of problems:

Tiger Woods 2003
The graphics are corrupted and I get flashing black and white squares.

Nascar Racing 2003
It has similar problems to Tiger Woods in DirectX, but it runs without problems in OpenGL.

Has anyone else experienced these problems or is this something wrong with my setup? I've had no problems with other games so I'm hoping that it is just something funny with these two!

I'm running the Detonator 44.03 drivers and Tiger Woods had the 1.2 patch applied (otherwise it won't run at all). Tiger Woods had similar problems with the 44.65 drivers. Would I be any better using the 44.61 drivers?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Karen

Its the MSI one - "VTD256".

Under your DirectX settings in the drivers, do you have "enable fog table emulation" enabled? it should be by default, but Ive heard this can cause graphics errors if its not.

Smokey,

Thanks - I checked the "enable fog table emulation" setting and it is checked.

Well Im going to guess its a driver problem then myself, I would write to both EA and MSI and see if they are aware of the problem and if and when it will be fixed.

I remember seeing in the GFFX5800Ultra previews/reviews that there were some graphic errors in some games that were fixed later on with new drives, so there is hope, you may just have to wait a little bit :)

Karen,

I would uninstall TW 2003, then run a regcleaner to remove any remnants of it in the registry, re-install TW, then the 1.2 patch and try again.

Thanks,

I may try the registry cleaning route if there are no new drivers appearing soon. I tried EA's support, but so far none of their suggestions has helped - reducing the graphics detail just gives an interesting set of different flashing blocks and grey grass...

It sounds like a possible driver residue issue as I have seen this before. You might try a clean install of the 44.03/44.65 drivers before uninstalling/reinstalling TW. Let me know if this helps...

Thanks - I'll try that too. I previously had an ATI Radeon card installed, so I don't know if its old files could have an effect.

Yup, that's probably it. I was going to say, it sounds like a driver remnant problem, but BB beat me to it.

I have found the driver cleaner utility at Drive Heaven to be the very best one I have ever used...try that..

Sadly that didn't cure things. In fact it now alternates with a blue screen crash :-(.

I think I'll give up on it for the moment, thanks for all the helpful suggestions for fixes.

Yes, I was thinking that too - it isn't something to look forward to, but I think that it may be the only cure...

it sounds like an OS problem...
you should run freash install of winXP and then install the drivers manually.
