Vaseline was a horrible idea, it works like a super laxative if you eat it. :D

I will be one of the first to have the retail Fermis in hand so I will do my own benching along side my 295s and I will find someone with the AMD cards as well. Thanks for your patience.

;)

Very stylish photos Xion :)
The 5970 is a killer card. Hopefully the next driver will improve the situation for me... Otherwise I'm thinking about going back to a single GTX 280 until Fermi hits. Performance isn't everything.

What issues do you have with your 5970's :(

Nice looking cards there Xion X2 :captnkill:

the underside of those cards looks decent instead of the usual bare pcb and stylish top of cards that are never seen when inside a case

They look really nice except for the fake air intakes on the end of the cards.

Mainly stability issues with DXVA in Media Player Classic HC. With DXVA enabled, a system crash is guaranteed after a few minutes. With DXVA disabled it's better but it's still crashes once in a while. It's a general ATI issue, Anandtech also reported about this in one of their newer articles.
And I get black screenshots in Fraps with Crossfire enabled. So I usually have Crossfire disabled.

Performance, Image Quality and features would be kickass but without proper driver support for non-game related stuff, this card is useless.

That's a shame because they are such a kickass graphics card.

Thanks. Sorry that you're still having trouble. Are the problems you're experiencing when you're on an HDTV or a DVI/VGA monitor?

I've had very few issues w/ ATI drivers when I'm on a DVI or VGA monitor. For some reason, ATI has had trouble with HDTV displays--probably due to the lesser demand of compatibility with them as the majority do not use them with their PCs.

Then again, I don't run all the different media center software packages that you're trying to run, and I've never tried running both ATI and Nvidia cards in my machine.

Good luck in getting everything sorted out. Fermi likely won't best 5970 in performance, but it'll be a great card and may offer you the compatibility that you're looking for outside of gaming. Gaming is just about all I do, that and video editing and some photoshop work. Haven't had trouble in the past with any of these on ATI.

ATI always makes pretty cards. The beauty of it all is both companies product total win products. That is why the anti one company or another thing pisses me off so bad. Look how close I am to Nvidia at the moment. Do you see me talking crap about AMD/ATI? hell no. So if I OF ALL PEOPLE do not engage in it, why the hell should other people be so nasty? it just is senseless. The bottom line is THEY ARE JUST PIECES OF HARDWARE. If you want to get emotional about something, get emotional over the poor people in Haiti who are having mass graves with no ID of the dead. Nvidia and AMD are both leading fund raising efforts.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Today's culture is the result of a lot of insecure brats who place their self esteem in their PC hardware.

I've owned both NV/ATI over the years and usually go with whichever fits my current needs/wants the most. When I first saw Eyefinity, I knew that I wanted to go with ATI this round since they had a seamless, in-driver surround gaming experience ready to go. Others may be more into the 3-D gaming and go with Nvidia. It boils down to whatever a person's tastes are.

i tried the 3d and it starts to kill my eyes after 15 min of play, i dunno if thats just me but i think 3 monitors seems to much screen so i dunno, i think one monitor is fine but over all i would do the 3 monitors because the 3d screens are not that great right now and there is no 30'' ones

Actually there are 30" LCD's,but they're about 1200$ a pop,so figure close to 4000$ for three of them + taxes + shipping costs.

Not to mention the huge desk you'd need to have room for all 3 displays.

why would you say that? The Dell is the only one I paid for (well, I bought the DLP with money I got for having a rig on the cover of CPU Magazine) the others are sponsored.

Are you getting the new Acer or the Dell Alienware 24" 120Hz monitors. Both look pretty damn cool. Very nice price for the Alienware one.

Muppet

really not sure. just whatever they send. beggars can't be choosers

Cool. Didn't realize they where sponsored ones. All the better I say. :D

Brand loyalty is for idiots.

Quality new hardware is always good and it doesn't matter a damn who makes it :)

I've been thinking about this:

http://img.ncix.com/images/38042_l.jpg

Along with 3 of these LCD's:

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=38254&vpn=LS23MYZKFV%2FXAC&manufacture=Samsung

http://img.ncix.com/images/38254_l.jpg

The displays support fairly high resolutions and are pretty cheap and have thin bezels, though i've seen that stand at a local shop handle 22" LCD's,but it was a tight fit,so using those 23" LCD's for their higher resolution abilities, might be a little too much to ask.

Comes to about 850$ for the 3 displays and the stand,or i might play it safe and just get the displays, with each one having it's own stand.
