Nvidia doesn't allow that iirc

Not officially, but some have found ways to make it work even with the most recent drivers....http://physxinfo.com/news/942/hybrid-physx-mod-1-02-195-xx-drivers-and-win-xp-support/

WinXP support only though, but i'll look a little harder to see if there's something for Vista/Windows 7 users

I just preordered it, Should I use My 3 GTX 280's (TRI-FIRE), Or my two 5870's in crossfire with DX11.

Well with one combo you get DX10 graphics effects + GPU physics.

With the other you get DX11 graphics effects + CPU physics.

Pick your poison...:D

I've read you can do it with XP and 7, but not Vista. Not 100% sure though.

Did find this for Windows 7,as it allows 2 active display drivers, just like Windows XP did,but there's no love for Vista:

Nope:(

If i'm not mistaken,that board has 3 PCI-e X16 slots....2 blue colored ones,and a 3rd white PCI-e slot right at the bottom of the board,near the edge.

Take out 2 GTX285's on the blue slots and install the HD5870's there, while leaving the 3rd GTX285 on the bottom slot alone.....Best of both worlds,DX11 with GPU physics.

Yeah I could do that, But what about the drivers?, Probally be a mess Huh?

Are you running windows 7 or windows vista?

If it's windows 7,just look at the video above that Johnny C posted on how to set it up with the patch i linked to.....Never mind if it's windows vista,it won't work.

Win 7 64 bit

Win 7 64 bit

Then it should work as the patch has a 32 bit and a 64bit version....Looks to be some work involved on the software side of things, but if you want to play metro in DX11 and using GPU physics right now,it's the only option.

Or you play it safe and wait to get some GTX480's for DX11 mode + GPU physics.

Or you play it in DX10 mode + GPU physics and using your current cards.

As always, try at your own risk....

Yeah I'll be getting some 480's or 470's hopefully can get 3 for TRI-FIRE, I watched the video though.

Time for another Rumour, and as usual take it with the usual pinch of salt....

Seems that no hardware review sites have yet received cards to actually benchmark and review as well as write their articles, and we're only 11 days from the official anouncement,so will there be hardware reviews of the GTX470/480 cards ready by the 26th of march?

This has got to be the strangest Nvidia launch I've seen for a while....the only thing I can think of is the performance isn't that great.

Being the hardware buff that I am  I hope the above isn't true....but what else could it be.

Or maybe they wanna catch ATI with their pants down. I mean look at how Apple launches new products, no one knows anything untill they announce it and everyone runs out and buys their BS.

So you think they'll release the monster of all GPUs :D

No

I think it will be faster then the 5870 but not like double or anything. I expect it to be faster then the GTX 295, atleast I hope.

It does win the award for the longest one as it is,as we've been hearing and seeing tech presentations since last september, now add all the leaks and rumours, which we still don't know if they're accurate or not,and that the latest rumor suggests that retail cards will only really ship about 2 weeks after the march 26th anouncement, then Nvidia stating volume shipments will only really begin in the 2nd quarter of 2010.

Performance is still unknown, there's also that BSN article i posted about earlier today that the initial batch of GTX480 cards will ship with 480 shaders enabled, not the full 512,so i really don't know what to think about it anymore, and just hope that the march 26th anouncement also means having hardware reviews from independant sites, and not just specific games at specific settings either, but a wide variety of games and at all settings.

It does bring back an old memory though:

in 2003 NVIDIA gave Anandtech only one weekend...Superbowl weekend...to benchmark and write a review for the GeForce FX. It made such a (negative) impression they had to mention it four years later in the AMD Barcelona CPU review.

It can be concluded from the article that reviewers don't have cards. The cards were expected to come from the AIBs, but the AIBs wouldn't even have cards until next week to pass on to reviewers so NVIDIA will distribute the cards instead.

http://futuremark.yougamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124616&page=3....

And the article at anandtech itself:

http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=1779

Fast forwarding to the present day, it was no less than 4 days ago that NVIDIA contacted us and told us that our GeForce FX 5800 Ultra was in the mail and we'd have the weekend to get our review ready. Not willing to step down from a challenge we put our other tests aside and readied the systems to begin our long awaited review of the GeForce FX.

They were given only 4 days for the review, over the weekend, and it was superbowl weekend too boot.

Make you own conclusions to the similarities that have plagued the NV30 back then,to the issues Fermi has been facing, both rumored and what's known so far.

I'd say that is the general consensus. Here's hoping anyway. Would be disappointing if not.

I hope and guess the GTX 400 release will be comparable with the GTX 280 (http://tinyurl.com/yewu86o), not the FX 5800. Which means the GTX 4x5 will be awesome ;)

It should be. The GTX470 is supposed to keep up with the HD5870, but it's not clear what drivers they test the HD5870 with for this test. I read in a forum the other day that the 10.2/3b drivers drastically increased performance and for example in Crysis Warhead a single HD5870 averages 60FPS with DX10 and 8xAA with maxed out settings, res 1920x1080. My SLI'd 260's (~same as 295) can't touch that, not with 8xAA.

EDIT: In fact, here's the page..
