I hate these threads too... but i'm torn..
Tax return is coming soon it looks like its ether a 5870 or a mobo/case/psu.

Right now I'm running a XPS 420(dell was the only place that would give me credit) I can overclock it with setFSB at a solid 3.0GHZ.

The PSU will handle a 5870 and it will fit in the case...

Do I get a new video card.. or get a new mobo/case/psu so I can OC my cpu more?
I play at 1080p btw

Dell's site doesn't say what processors come with that (beyond Core 2 Duo / Extreme), but I don't think you'd be able to put together much of an upgrade if you went mobo/case/psu. I was looking at putting together a Core I5-750+Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5+Corsair CMPSU-650HX+ram, which comes out to around $650, and that's probably not going to be much of an upgrade for me and my E8400+P35+Corsair HX520W. I think you'll get alot more out of the 5870 if the XPS 420 has enough of a power supply for it.

We'll definitely need a list of your specs to make any kind of suggestion.

A q6600 should be enough for a couple of years yet, so I'd go for a 5850 and a new case. A 5870 isn't much faster than the 5850 at the same clocks(only 0-2% faster).

Hmm...

Your system is actually pretty well balanced IMO.

I don't think a Q6600 has enough overclocking head room to make it worth buying a new motherboard for it. You might be able to squeeze out another 400Mhz with a good cooler but the temps will be quite hot. The X38 is a pretty good chipset anyways. Its not really old enough to need replacing.

I'd just go with a new video card if I were you. A 5850 would probably be a good fit.

+1 for a vid card

Besides, since it was bought on credit, it would suck to still have a monthly payment for a something you dont own anymore...
