Also Crossfire doesn't reqiure the same model of card. You could run a 4870 with a 5870. It will scale them appropriately. It's a pretty nice feature.

I can't speak for crossfire but I assembled a system recently with a 5850 and it had tons of driver issues... most notably a giant-cursor which was kind of frustrating. It was the size of what you'd expect at 640x480 but the res was 1280x1024.... I wasn't impressed, but being a system that I was building, I didn't get alot of time to play with it either. I'm sure the performance is great, but I never tried

I just had to RMA one of these exact cards, and wound up getting an MSI GTX480. My first and last ATI card.

I've heard crossfire on any driver after 10.5 sucks. But the good news is that 10.5 is a pretty good driver. Hopefully the crossfire issues will be fixed this month.

HardOCP did a 460 SLI vs 5870 CF benchmark and the 460 basically outpaced the 5870 in every case because they used the 10.7 driver, which for many is up to 20-30 fps slower.

Also mixing different models of cards in crossfire can sometimes yield some pretty strange results. For example a 5870 + 5850 produced results that were the same as 5850s in crossfire. So for the best results use the same card. Though 5970 + 5870 can yield some good results.
