View Full Version : 19.5 KB is really a bit small.

I have no problem with the sig rules as per say, i like the fact that sig pics aren't allowed to be that big, but 19.5KB is pretty severe. I thought the limit was a bit ironic considering the forum has a pretty huge amount of picture threads and a reasonable amount of space for attachments.

Could the KB limit be upped to something more managable like 35 or something.

Pretty please, my sig pic looks horribly compressed.:(:(:(:D

Better than a dogs breakfast and likely to annoy everyone. Sig pics along with animated avatars were a hotly debated topic, they are only allowed if they are as small and unobtrusive as possible.

Anyway, ragejg made my sig. Why do you hate him so much?

If you size/compress it correctly you should easily be below the 19.5KB.

If you increase the size to 35KB, then you're practically double the loading time on pages with all text (e.g. in P&R). Then again pretty much everyone's avatars are cached by the browser. To be honest, I don't care either way. I have >15Mbit everywhere I go anyway lol.

This is what i mean.

If you have photoshop, you can do save it as a web file, and it lowers the size greatly. It made mine from 273 KB, to about 9 KB i think. And no loss of quality.

Well to get round the problem i tried uploading several different higher resolution versions and just lettng the uploader get on with it with the auto compressor they've got going on.
I used the one with the best result.

And vin, don't give me the "it will take twice as long to display the page" malarky because it just doesn't cut the mustard when there are so many picture of ridunculous size threads dotted around the place.
