View Full Version : 9800 Pro overclocking: anybody notice 3DMark2003 more sensitive than 3DMark2001?
I noticed the same thing with the 9700 Pro: I can overclock to 370/335 in 3DMark2001, but in 3DMark2003, I get black dots in Proxycon until I drop down to 355/335. I just got a 9800 Pro, I can run 427/360 artifact free in 3DMark2001, but I get a white dot moire pattern in the water in Nature, until I drop all the way down to 400/360. I also see white dots in Troll's Lair and between the two elephant's legs in Pixel Shader 2.0 test that won't go away completely unless I drop down to 390/400. That's not much of an overclock if I go by 3DMark2003.
Is there a bug in 3DMark2003 (I downloaded it when it first came out), or is the moire just due to the card overclocked to high?

No, it ain't a bug and you ain't imagining it. 3dm2k3 is much more graphic card dependant than CPU dependant, so any changes you make to the viddy card are goingt to be reflectively higher on 3dm2k3. :)

And you also may experience checkerboards in 3dm03 when overclocking that may not happen during games because of it being gpu sensitive
Actually, that's what I mean, a checkerboard pattern of white dots in the water in Nature. Oh well, 'guess I have to clock my card differently depending on the bench.

Yes my R980pro in 2001se will over clock to 465/760 with no problems but will only over clock to 446/720 in benchmark 2003. What brand is your Radeom 9800pro, I have a ATI.

You using stock or aftermarket cooling for the GPU? Best mine will do is 430 mhz before artifacting for the core but the memory can pull 750 mhz which is pretty good.
